"In just 15 minutes a day, teach your child to read with confidence using Read Me Stories."

Now that the summer is here, and kids are out of school, have they taken over your iPads and cell phones yet?  My girls, who are still home with me, are always asking to play with our iPads (we had to buy another one so that they could each use one), to play with educational apps we have loaded on them.  One recent app that I downloaded for the girls, and that become an instant hit is Read Me Stories: Learn to Read, which released on June 8th from 8Interactive.  This reading app is available through iTunes and the Google Play store FREE of Charge.  There is, however, additional charges to add more books to your child's library.  But, when you initially download the Read Me Stories: Learn to Read app, you are given a few books to start. :-)

I have shared in past posts how I plan to homeschool my girls, starting this Fall.  I am slowly learning about all the state requirements and gathering up materials for the girls, so that when August rolls around, I will be ready to begin our homeschooling adventure.  One thing I plan to rely on will be apps like this one, which will help in teaching the girls how to read, recognizing new words and pronouncing them correctly.  And, as a bonus for me and other homeschooling parents, this fun, educational app also includes Parent Booklets with step-by-step lesson plans and printed activity resources, that go along with each storybook, making this the perfect homeschooling app to use with your children.  I have found myself getting overwhelmed with the different homeschooling curriculum out there, so it was nice to see this feature available for this app.  Now, I don't have to create my own lesson plans, as they are already there for me.  Yes!  I love it! :-)

Prior to letting the girls play with the new Read Me Stories: Learn to Read app, I spent a few days playing around with it, to get a feel for it, and see how good it was.  Over the years, I have lost count of how many beginner reading or storybook apps I have downloaded FREE or purchased for the girls.  But, I do know that most didn't meet the standards I was looking for.  Either they were poorly made, or you continually had to buy add-ons for the app to work.  These types of apps I am quick to erase before sharing with the girls.  I don't want them to just waste time playing with the iPads.  Instead, my main goal when letting them play with the iPads is to learn new things.  And, with the new Read Me Stories: Learn to Read app from 8Interactive, I am confident that after trying out this app, and using it with the girls, that this app will definitely help them build up their confidence when pronouncing new words, all while learning how to read.

Read Me Stories is geared towards beginner readers, as well as those who have been struggling in school to become better readers.  Parents can tailor their child's reading experience depending on their current reading level.

Kids will not feel overwhelmed or rushed when using this reading app, and can learn at own pace.  As a parent, this is one thing that I loved when trying out the app myself.  As a child navigates through the different storybooks, they are introduced to 1000+ new words, can reinforce their ABCs, phonics and pronunciation skills, while enjoying a entertaining story.

Similar to other storybook apps, your child has the option of having each storybook read to them, or that they can read out loud on their own.  If they choose to have the story read to them, they can follow along and see each word highlighted as it is read in a slow pace.

Each and every word is clearly spoken and pronounced so that even the youngest of beginner readers can repeat it back or understand what is being said.

Because my two girls are 15 months apart, I have to keep this mind using reading apps like this, as I sometimes forget that Savannah is more advanced with her vocabulary than Bella is.  So, I find that the Read Me Stories app is great for bedtime reading with Bella, while I utilize this app more during the daytime with Savannah as a "learn to read" and "new words" teaching tool.  Savannah is able to grasp more of the stories and tell me about them in her own words once the story is done.  She is also forming better sentences thanks in part to this app...and, we have only been using it for a few weeks now.

Read Me Stories is a positive introduction to reading and will nurture your child's education development.  They will not get bored of the app, and will be eager, like my girls, to see what new book is added each day. Your child will find interactive tales of adventure, animals, trucks, planes, amazing places like the South Pole and outer space, classic stories like 'Little Red Riding Hood', etc. There are also books with songs, like the 'Five Fabulous Frogs' theme song, which is a personal favorite of my girls, and one I have found myself singing the catchy song in the shower. :-)

If you are looking for bilingual books, this app includes ebooks in languages like Spanish, Chinese or Japanese.  Seeing that my husband is from El Salvador and speaks Spanish, his hope is that the girls will become bilingual, too.  So, he is always looking for great quality ebooks like the ones found through this reading app to enjoy with the girls at bedtime or during their one-on-one time with him.

So, if you have been looking for a fun "learn to read" app for your kids, or just want to add great quality educational apps to your iPads or cell phones for the kids to use over summer vacation, why not check out the new Read Me Stories from 8Interactive.  Your children will have a portable library of books right at their fingertips, saving you time on stopping by the library or purchasing new books for them to read and enjoy.

Like I said, the app is FREE to download, and you only pay if you want to continue to receive new books. The initial download will let you see firsthand the types of storybooks you would get with in-app purchases.  I know that once you try this new reading app out, you and your child will love it, just as much as my girls and I do.

  2. I love using this app with my 5 year old son. He is going to start kindergarten this fall and is starting to read more fluently, in large part, because of this app.
I homeschooled my oldest son through his 2nd to 5th grades, and I can certainly appreciate the value of the parent guides if you are going to homeschool your girls this fall.
    Plus, the stories are fun!
