Have you heard about the National Positivity Movement? I hadn't until I stumbled across Alexa's Angels and read about how they wanted to start, spread and experience a positivity movement, with the help of others. Their goal is to collect 500,000 positive sentiments into their virtual databank, which you can find at www.shareyourpositivity.org. Their hope is to inspire the world at large, through sharing these positive quotes, sentiments and thoughts.
If you were asked to share a positive sentiment or thought, what would you come up with? I posed this question to a few friends and was surprised to find them struggling to come up with something positive. One said she struggled as she was trying to find the right words, another didn't want to give a wrong (even though here there is no wrong answer), and another was just surprised at the question, as she said is rarely asked to share something positive. I was amazed at how they struggled. It felt like I was grilling them for a job interview or even a game show where they were being timed and had to come with an answer on the spot. :-)
But, this question gave us something to talk about, and for the next hour, over coffee and homemade banana bread, we shared positive things in our lives, and thought about positive quotes that resonated with us. With the recent passing of Maya Angelo, I shared a few positive quotes that I remember seeing shared online.
"Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud."
"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude."
"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."
In addition to collecting positive messages, the folks at Alexa's Angels also offer Positivity Bracelets, as a reminder that "attitude is a choice and positivity is contagious." Packaged as a set of 3 bracelets, the carding explains their pass-it-on concept: "Keep one bracelet for yourself and share the others with loved ones, friends, or even strangers. Be positive! Pass it on and have fun!" Crafted of rhodium and nylon, they are stretch fit, one-size-fits-all bracelets.
The bracelet sets come in black, light pink, 6 bright colors, and two-toned school/team colors too! They are a great way to build team spirit and support a good cause.
The front side of the bracelet's central metal piece reads "posi+ivi+y" and the reverse side directs the wearer to http://www.shareyourpositivity.org, a website inviting the public to share inspirational stories, photos, and quotes. Here, you’ll find stories of life situations made easier by friends and family members that reached out to share some hope. Some bracelet wearers share that the product help them stay hopeful through difficult medical diagnoses and treatments, to share encouragement with loved ones going through difficult passages, and to enforce a transformation of their own attitude in daily living. Positivity lovers may subscribe at the site to receive notices when a new post is shared.
