PBS KIDS’ “DINOSAUR BIG CITY / DINOSAURS A TO Z DOUBLE FEATURE” ARRIVED ON DVD, MAY 13th

The Double Feature Offers a 25% Savings vs. Purchasing Both DVDs Separately

"Featuring 17 prehistoric adventures aimed at sparking an interest in science within children, this double feature offers a dino-mite way to get more DINOSAUR TRAIN for less!

The first of the two DVDs included in the double feature is “Dinosaur Big City.” In this DVD, join Buddy, the Pteranodon family, and all their Theropod friends in a four-part adventure as they travel on the Dinosaur Train to Laramidia, the Dinosaur Big City, for the Theropod Convention. At the convention, the kids reunite with Annie Tyrannosaurus and her parents, Delores and Boris. They all meet the multi-horned Mayor Kosmoceratops and then Buddy and Tiny help King Cryolophosaurus overcome his fear of performing in front of his biggest audience ever. In addition to the four Big City themed adventures, this DVD also includes four more stories – “Troodon Train Day,” “King Cryolophosaurus,” “The Theropod Club,” and “Laura the Giganotosaurus.”

The second of the two DVDs included in the double feature is “Dinosaurs A to Z.” In this DVD, viewers will travel on the Dinosaur Train with Buddy, Mom, and Tiny to gather all the dinosaurs in the ‘Dinosaurs A to Z’ song for a picnic at Troodon Town! Join the Pteranodon family on four adventures as they reunite with some dinosaurs they’ve met before, are introduced to new species, and learn about the classification of all 26 dinosaurs on the train. In addition to these four tales, this DVD also includes five more stories, one of which is a special bonus adventure. These five tales are “The Call of the Wild Corythosaurus, “Fast Friends,” “One Small Dinosaur,” “Have You Heard About the Herd?,” and the bonus story “Solstice Time.”

DINOSAUR TRAIN embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains, while encouraging basic scientific thinking skills. Buddy and his adoptive family of Pteranodons go on whimsical adventures through prehistoric jungles, swamps, volcanoes, and oceans as they unearth basic concepts in natural science, natural history, and paleontology. The Dinosaur Train is a colorful locomotive, customized to accommodate all kinds of dinosaurs and has the ability to visit the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous worlds. The Train’s Conductor, a knowledgeable Troodon, provides passengers with fascinating facts along the way. DINOSAUR TRAIN airs weekdays on PBS KIDS (check local listings).

HOLLYWOOD-INSPIRED HIGH JINKS AWAIT IN  PBS KIDS’ “ARTHUR MAKES A MOVIE” DVD

"With the start of the summer movie season just around the corner, join the world’s most famous aardvark, Arthur Read, and his family and friends as they make their own movies!

Based on the children’s books by Marc Brown, ARTHUR chronicles the adventures of eight-year-old Arthur through engaging, emotional stories that explore issues faced by real kids. Aimed at viewers four to eight, ARTHUR tells stories from a kid’s point of view, while fostering an interest in reading and writing, and modeling positive social skills. ARTHUR airs weekdays on PBS KIDS (check local listings).

ARTHUR MAKES A MOVIE” is now available on DVD as of May 13, 2014. The run time is approximately 50 minutes and the DVD SRP is $9.99. In addition to featuring four fun-filled learning adventures, the DVD also includes special features – printable coloring pages and activities."

Episodes which make up this new DVD release include:

Arthur Makes a Movie
Too young to see a real “James Hound” movie, the kids decide they’ll make a film of their own.  With Muffy directing and Arthur playing the dashing, urbane hero, how bad could it be? Hmmm—don’t answer that.

Go To Your Room, D.W.
Poor D.W.  How would you like to be four years old and completely misunderstood by your parents?  And then be sent to your room for 10 whole minutes??  The indignity of it all!!  Those long, dragging minutes give D.W. a chance to relive her tragic childhood and plan a fool-proof means of escape.

Agent of Change
The latest animated hit in movie theaters about a boy and his truck has left Muffy and Francine disappointed.  Why don’t there seem to be any cool female characters on screen?  So with the help of a very talented artist, Molly, the “Group of Three” set out to make their own movie!

D.W. Unties the Knot
After watching “The Wedding Channel,” D.W. wants to get married!  And, having no idea what this really means, she starts planning herself the biggest unicorn wedding imaginable.  But D.W. soon realizes that she’s getting more than she bargained for.  Can she back out in time?"

My Thoughts:

I don't know about you, but as a parent to two toddlers, I can't get enough of the educational programming PBS Kids has to offer.  Whenever the girls and I are looking for something fun to watch on television, especially on rainy days or when they are not feeling well, I can count on the shows that air on PBS Kids to not only entertain, but also educate at the same time.

While my girls enjoy the various daytime programming, which includes shows like Wild Kratts, Curious George, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, etc., their personal favorites, and ones they keep asking me to watch or record for them include Dinosaur Train, Martha Speaks and Arthur.  I grew up watching Arthur, and love watching this show and seeing how the story lines have evolved over the years.

Our DVD library is filled with dozens of releases from PBS Distribution, and now we can add these three new titles to them.  What I love most about these releases is that kids can enjoy a handful of full-length episodes of their favorite PBS Kids shows on one DVD.  These DVDs sure do com in handy for in-the-car viewing, or if you are looking to keep the kids entertained, while you handle a task at home.  Or, better yet, grab a cozy blanket and snuggle up with the kids to watch these great new DVD releases, which include already aired episodes (which your children will not mind).  It always amazes me how my girls can watch a DVD over and over again without getting bored.  But, my mom was quick to remind me the other, that when I was younger, I used to to be the same way. :-)

So, if your child is a Martha Speaks fan and loves learning new words from this very talking dog, or they can't get enough of Arthur, D.W. and friends, or are into dinosaurs thanks to the hit animated series, Dinosaur Train, then you will want to make a point to check out these new releases, which are all reasonably priced, making them a great idea to pick up for upcoming summer travel if you have a DVD player in the car, or to buy two sets -- one for your house and one for the grandparents.  Kids will go crazy for these fun-filled episodes featuring some of their favorite PBS Kids characters, while also learning new things!
