My Thoughts:

Unless you are a pet lover, then you don't know the strong bond that people have with their animals.  A few years ago, if you asked me about my children, I could have talked your ear off about our three rescue dogs.

While they weren't actually humans, we treated them as such, spoiling them at the holidays, celebrating their birthdays, and even sleeping with them.  But, due to illness usually seen in rescue dogs, Manny and Abby passed away back in 2011 and 2013.  Their passing is still felt today.  Lily, our 9 yr. old rescue, whom we rescued last in 2009 after I finished chemo treatment and as a playmate for Abby, still feels the void, as her best friend is no longer here.  They used to do everything together.  And, even though Lily was older than Abby, she acted like Abby was the older sibling in the relationship, partly because she was smaller than Abby.

Just like kids, I still find myself calling Lily by Abby or Manny's name when I am rushing around. Or, I will look at old photos and see the three dogs, and get a little teary eyed.  Our pets are our lives, and it is true, they do provide unconditional love, while not expecting anything in return...well, maybe a back rub or treat every once in awhile. :-)

With many rescue animals comes illness and the need to adjust their diets.  This was true for Manny who was allergic to beef.  When we found out and tried adjusting his diet, we were shocked at how non-beef foods still contained beef byproducts.  Then, a year after Abby came home with us, she started getting seizures.  The vet wasn't sure what was causing them, but suggested that we change her diet to help with preventing them.  and, I guess Lily wanted to join in with the diet adjustments as she started to gain extra weight and the vet told us to cut back on certain treats and wet dog food as they added pounds, especially to little dogs like her.

Because of our having to be educated on proper nutrition for dogs in order to provide the best for our three rescue pets, we found ourselves becoming loyal customers to a few dog food companies in particular.  One company, who sells both dog and cat food and treats is WellPet. If you were to look into our food pantry you would find an assortment of dog food and treats for Lily from their popular Wellness product line.

So, when I heard about the folks at WellPet adding new products, I had to request a couple of samples to share with Lily.  It has been awhile since Lily has lent her paw and helped me review products for my blog.  But, she was more than willing when she saw me taking two packages of CORE Protein bars for dogs out of the box the other day, when the mail arrived.

Wellness CORE Superfood® Protein Bars: Powerful superfoods like pomegranates, sweet potatoes and kale are paired with hearty proteins in appetizing, moist treats for dogs that lead an active lifestyle. Recipes include Turkey & Duck with Kale, Beef & Bison with Blueberries, Chicken & Turkey with Sweet Potatoes and Salmon & Whitefish with Pomegranates.

Lily, like our two other rescue dogs, is not a fan of fish, so we tend to purchase turkey, chicken and fruit based snacks for her.  So, just knowing that these new Wellness CORE Superfood® Protein Bars contained these healthy ingredients, I knew she would love them.  And,...she did.

If she could have had the whole bag in one sitting, she would have. :-) I am so excited to have had the opportunity to try another Wellness dog food product from WellPet with our Lily.  It was nice to see her running around and doing tricks for the girls, so that she could get a couple treats.  I will definitely be picking up more bags of Wellness CORE Superfood® Protein Bars to keep in the pantry to reward Lily with.  And, I can't wait to receive samples of the new Wellness Petite Entrées to try with Lily and share a review with you...so, stay tuned!
