Everyone in our house are Gleeks, and love Lea Michele -- what a voice she has. So, when I recently heard that Lea Michele was cast to play Dorothy in the recent (May 9th) stunning 3D animated, star-studded musical adventure Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, I was so excited. And, if an animated featuring Lea Michele wasn't enough, the folks at Bandai America, in celebration of this 3D animated movie, also introduced a line of iconic fashion and singing Dorothy dolls.
"Based on the adventure books by Roger Stanton Baum and the only authentic sequel based on the most watched movie in history The Wizard of Oz, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return follows Dorothy (Lea Michele) who has just returned home from her first incredible journey to Oz, when she’s whisked back on a magical rainbow by her old friends the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (Jim Belushi) and the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) for yet another adventure. As her old friends are held captive, Dorothy enlists the help of an entirely new set of friends – Wiser the Owl (Oliver Platt), MarshalMallow (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty) and Tugg the tugboat (Patrick Stewart) – to help her find her old friends! Set to the tunes of Academy Award®-nominated singer/songwriter Bryan Adams, Legends of Oz, marks a charming, family-friendly, long-awaited return to the Oz franchise."
Available at Toys R’ Us, Target and Wal-Mart stores nationwide, these beautiful dolls range in price from $14.99, $19.99 and $24.99 for the Singing Fashion Dorothy Fashion doll featuring two song clips from the movie “One Day” and “Work With Me” sung my Lea Michele.

After arriving home this past weekend from an impromptu Mother's Day getaway, the girls found a box with the mail. Before I could see who the box was from, they had the box open and were trying to pry the Dorothy doll from the packaging. Now, if you have little ones, then you know how toys come screwed down or secured really well, that you find yourself spending upwards of 5 minutes just taking the toys out of the box. Well, my girls had the doll out of the box in record time, and were sitting together (which doesn't happen that often lately) as they admired this beautiful doll from Bandai America. Out of all the dolls that the girls have that are based on movie or television show characters, this one is made really well.
Savannah was quick to point out her stylish boots, and asked where her horse was. Then, she followed up and asked if she could get a pair just like Dorothy. :-) Bella, who is more the girly girl and into playing with dolls more than Savannah, took more time in looking over Dorothy. I loved watching her stroke and admire the Dorothy's brown hair that has been braided. And, while she, too, like Dorothy's boots, she was more interested in her dress. I quickly pulled up a photo on my phone to show Bella what the Dorothy I remembered as a child looked like, and how she had a similar dress. But, with the changing of the times, this dress is more fitting, and stylish. :-)
And, for the next few hours, as we unpacked and got ready to go to bed, the girls sat together playing with their new Dorothy doll from Banzai America, while I played clips of the classic Wizard of Oz for them. This upcoming weekend, we plan to bring the girls to the movies so that we can all enjoy the new 3D animated sequel, which is sure to become a family favorite, just like the classic Wizard of Oz has, and will be cherished for years to come. After the movie, my husband and I plan to bring the girls to Toys R Us so that they can use their allowance and buy one of the Singing Fashion Dorothy Fashion doll, to go along with the Basic Dorothy Fashion Doll we were recently sent. I know they will love hearing Lea Michelle sign snippets of songs from this new release, and that they will have fun playing together, as sisters should, with these cute fashion dolls. And, shh, don' tell the girls, but I will personally be looking for this cute plush Toto for myself...OK, maybe I will let the girls hold him. Isn't he just too darn cute? :-)
