"Audiobooks.com provides the first on-demand streaming and downloadable service for audiobooks, delivering access on any Internet-enabled smartphone or PC, including Apple iPhones and iPads and Android smartphones or tablet devices. The company is the first and only provider of Cloud Bookmarking, its proprietary technology that synchronizes users’ last listened-to bookmark position across all devices.
Just
as digital downloads once displaced physical media like CDs, streaming
is replacing digital downloading as the media consumption technology of
choice across multiple media
platforms, as the success of streaming platforms like Netflix and
Pandora demonstrate. Streaming doesn’t require the user to save content
on a device hard drive like downloads do; instead, users just select
content and watch or listen instantly from a cloud-based
service. Audiobooks.com,
the
only service that allows members to stream and download audiobooks, is
poised to capitalize on streaming’s marketplace momentum as new
technologies spring up to support consumers’
appetite for streaming on demand.
To
better support both streaming and downloading on the go, Audiobooks.com
just announced the release of updated versions of the company’s free
iOS and Android apps. Featuring
an intuitive new user interface, the newly released apps are available
at Apple’s App Store for iPhones, iPod Touch and iPads or at Google Play
for Android devices. Members can use the apps to stream content on
demand, choosing from tens of thousands of audio
book titles like The Hunger Games trilogy and the Twilight series as well as popular best-sellers such as
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman and
Hidden Order, a thriller by Brad Thor.
Today,
travelers and commuters often download audiobooks for listening during a
road trip or on the way to work, but emerging technology is expanding
access to streaming
platforms on the go. A recent Consumer Reports article noted that “in-car electronics is the
fastest-growing area of auto technology,” with sophisticated
“infotainment centers” delivering access to an array of media platforms
for drivers and passengers, including media streaming capabilities.
The new versions of the Audiobooks.com apps are available now for free at the
Apple App Store or
Google Play, providing an improved user experience for members to
stream audiobooks on demand or download content. To learn more, please

Now I know what you are probably saying? Who wants to get audiobooks as a gift. Well, I know for me personally, my life is crazy busy trying to raise two toddlers, maintain the house, blog, etc. I don't have the free time I used to, where I could grab a good book and a hot cup of coffee or tea and sit for hours, getting lost in the pages of a good book. Now, I am lucky if I can squeeze in a few pages throughout the day. With naps almost obsolete in our house, I am on entertainment duty from 6AM-10PM most days. And, while the thought of picking up a book as a way to unwind at the end of a busy day with the girls, oftentimes my eyes are tired, and I just want to veg out on the couch before heading off to bed.
But, thanks to some great audio books from my husband for Christmas, I have been able to get back into enjoying books. Being a busy mom on the go, I am always in the car running errands with the girls, taking them to different classes or running to the market. During these car trips, the girls are usually watching a DVD in the back seat, rather than fighting over what music CD or song to listen to. Luckily with my car's radio, I am able to mute out the audio to their movie, and listen to radio in the front seat. Thanks to my husband's Christmas gifts, I have been taking the audio books in the car to listen to. Who knew that in just one month, I would be able to get through 5 books? I can't tell you the last time I was able to read a book in a month's time. And, if I did, I probably didn't remember half the plot, as I put the book down too many times.
With audio books, I have found that after the girls go to bed, I can relax on the couch, sip a glass of wine or hot beverage, and put my ear buds in to listen to a great book. Autobiographies and memoirs are my favorites, as they are always inspirational and let you into the world of those people you admire, as you learn about adversities they have faced, or struggles they have gone through. There is nothing better than being able to enjoy a good book -- either reading it yourself, or listening to it in audio book format. I personally find it relaxing.
Like most holidays, I was not surprised to find my husband asking me what I wanted for Valentine's Day. Yes, he is taking the girls and I away for a weekend getaway to Boston...but, he also wanted to get me something just for me. I told him about Audiobooks.com and how I was recently given the opportunity to try out their website. I couldn't stop raving about how easy it was to navigate the books, and how great the selection was. I used my free audio book credits to download a couple Michael J. Fox books I have been meaning to read.
My husband asked about the audiobooks he had bought me for Christmas, and couldn't believe that I had already listened to them all. Now familiar with the Audiobooks.com website, I couldn't resist grabbing the iPad and showing him all that this streaming/downloading audio books site has to offer, including the two Michael J. Fox books I had recently downloaded to the iPad to listen to wherever and whenever I wanted. :-)
I had another credit available for use, and ended up giving it to my husband use. He is more into business and self improvement books, so he opted for a Jack Canfield book.
He is a fan of audiobooks as he has an hour commute each way to work, and can never seem to find music on the radio during his drive that he likes. So, instead, he will download audiobooks to his MP3 player (which lacked good audio output) and listen to them in the car. This is also great, as he was never a book lover, and could never sit still to read a book. But, with a book being read to him, especially during his long, boring commute, it makes for a more peaceful drive, as he learns new things. And, he loves the ability that Audiobooks.com offers, so that he can download books right to his smartphone or iPad, and listen in the car, at work, or at home.
Are you a fan of audiobooks? Or, are you like me and find yourself too busy to pick up a good book nowadays to read? If you answered "yes" to either question, then you will want to check out Audiobooks.com. I have only been using this site for a few days, but love the book selection, and the entire ordering and downloading process is a breeze. My husband asked me yesterday if I had gotten him a gift for Valentine's Day. If I hadn't, he said he would love his only monthly subscription to Audiobooks.com. :-) At only $14.95/month you can't go wrong for the price. Find yourself wanting to listen to more than just one book a month? Not to worry as you can buy additional book credits whenever you feel like it for only $10.00 each. Still cheaper than ordering a book online, or picking up at a local bookstore (if you can find one).
Book lovers will go crazy for this site, and those looking for a way to learn new things, get back into reading, or looking for a new hobby will find themselves getting lost in the 40,000+ great books available for download and streaming from Audiobooks.com. They even offer a selection of children's books for young readers through the teen years. Next month I plan to download a few books to my smartphone for the girls, so that we can listen to them together on our trips to visit Nana and Papa. First up, my childhood favorite:
