The Virginian (DVD + VUDU Digital Copy) (Walmart Exclusive) (Widescreen)

Synopsis:

"Grammy Award® winning country music artist Trace Adkins (The Lincoln Lawyer) and Golden Globe® winner Ron Perlman (“Sons of Anarchy,” Pacific Rim) star in the all-new gun-slinging western The Virginian, will be locked and loaded on Blu-ray and DVD exclusively at Walmart and Sam’s Club, as well as digitally everywhere, January 7 from Cinedigm and Nasser Entertainment.  Based on the long-running classic television series “The Virginian,” this all-new adaptation is directed by Thomas Makowski (WWJD: What Would Jesus Do?) and also features Brendan Penny (“Supernatural”).

A riveting and action-packed western, The Virginian tells the story of a handsome and enigmatic enforcer (Adkins) for a cattle baron (Ron Perlman) in Wyoming, who took him in after his parents were killed.  Set against the backdrop of the Old West, the story of the Virginian’s past unfolds amidst a wealth of corruption, deception and gunplay, and the drama lays bare an unwritten law of the times: justice is a loaded gun. Packed with rustlers, romance and revenge, The Virginian rides onto Blu-ray and DVD for the suggested retail prices of $19.97 and $14.93, respectively. The film will also be available digitally everywhere."

My Thoughts:

I was eager to see this new movie release, which is an adaption of the 1929 classic starring Gary Cooper, followed by a long running television series in the 60's.  My dad was a fan of this western television series, and would always compare westerns he saw with The Virginian.  Never ever compared -- until now. While my dad listens to country music because my mom likes, he is not one to tune in and listen on his own in the car or the house.  When I showed him the DVD cover and he saw the title and that Trace Adkins was in it, I could tell he was a little confused.  He asked why they were going to ruin a classic western.  I told him to give the movie a chance -- which he did.  And, I am so glad he did, as he loved it.

I didn't have to pull my mom's arm to watch this DVD, as she just loves Trace Adkins and his raspy deep Southern voice.  As we were watching this movie over the weekend, my mom kept saying how well Trace Adkins was in this movie, and how he worked well with his co stars.  If you didn't know he was a country singer, she kept saying, "you would think he was a great up and coming actor." :-)

This movie contains everything you would expect from a western -- gunfights, revenge, romance, deception...the works.  And, the movie is action filled from start to finish.  I have to say that I am not usually a western fan, but I loved this movie, and can see myself watching it again and again.

If you are looking for a great movie to watch come date night, love Trace Adkins, love westerns...or all of the above...then you will want to pick up a copy of The Virginian, which is available today on Blu-ray and DVD.
