My Thoughts:
What better way to wrap up a fun Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends, then to crowd into the family room and watch Smurfs 2. This was one movie I really wanted to take Savannah to, but had to miss due to the girls being sick for the umpteenth time. But, I made a point to add this title to our must see list of movies when they release to DVD. :-)
Growing up, I was always a fan of the Smurfs. At one time, my bedroom was decked out in all things Smurfs -- from bedding to curtains and dozen of Smurfs plush toys, you can say I was a fan of the Smurfs, especially Papa Smurf and Smurfette. So, when I found out that they were releasing The Smurfs and then The Smurfs 2, I couldn't wait to see them. I love when childhood favorites are revamped and brought to the big screen, so that I can share them with my kids.
When I was finally able to share The Smurfs movie with them last year, my girls were hooked on these loveable blue people. They can name off each one if you asked them, and hate Gargamel because he is so mean. :-) When they saw that a new Smurfs movie was out on DVD, Savannah asked when we would be watching it. I thought it would be a nice family-friendly movie to share with guests staying with us over the Thanksgiving holiday. And, it ended up being a hit with everyone. Many of the adults knew that The Smurfs was revamped, but never saw the movies when they were in theaters. Some of the children knew of the Smurfs, but also had seen the movies. So, I knew from watching the first The Smurfs movie, that they would be in for a treat.
If the movie wasn't entertaining enough, the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack contained fun extras including deleted scenes, a feauturette, "Daddy's Little Girl" The Journey of Smurfette" and so much more. A personal favorite of all the bonus features was the Smurfs mini-movie, "The Legend of Smurfy Hollow," which is rated G, and was a hit with even the youngest of viewers, including my 2-yr. old daughter, Arabella.
I am not going to bore you with a review of the movie, as this movie was such a hit at the box office, that there are plenty of online reviews and movie trailers for to check out. I will say that this new release would definitely make a great stocking stuffer idea this holiday for fans of The Smurfs...both young and old. :-)
