This holiday season I will not only be enjoying quality time with family and friends, but I will be thanking them yet again for this kind words and support that they provided to me during my cancer battle in 2008. This year is especially special to me in regards to my cancer journey, as I am now 5 years out of treatment, and the doctors have deemed me "in remission." I was not the only ones who were waiting to hear these two words. And, as soon as I got the green light to shout "in remission" from the rooftops, I knew where to go to share this monumental occasion with those who followed my cancer journey and offered words of encouragement when I needed them post -- my CaringBridge personal website.
If you are not familiar with CaringBridge, they are a nonprofit organization that provides free personal websites to those battling a life threatening illness, as a way to help them stay connected to their support system (which oftentimes includes family, friends, co-workers, and even virtual friends from one's social media pages). Not only was I able to receive support through my followers kind words, that they shared on my personal CaringBridge page, but I was able to journal my cancer journey from start to finish. And, what a way to finish my journey -- by sharing the words "In remission." Sorry, but I can't help but smile just typing these two words, which mean so much to those who battled cancer, as well as those who stood alongside them and offered their love and support.
I am not the only one who has benefited from the free personal websites offered by CaringBridge. Can you believe that over 500,000 people interact and share words of encouragement and love daily through these personal websites? It is truly amazing when you think about this, and how much strength the personal battling an illness, as well as their caretakers, get when reading words of encouragement left on a person's personal CaringBridge page. Even though my treatment journey is over, I still have family and friends check in from time to time to see how I am coping with the long-term effects that I am left with as a result of the radiation and chemotherapy treatments I received. I love having one central location I can direct them to, and update them on my health. Thanks CaringBridge from my family and so many others who have benefited from your generosity and free personal websites.
Check out this video from CaringBridge, that shows just how powerful words of support left on a person's free CaringBridge website can impact a person battling an illness, like cancer:
