My Thoughts:
Yet another date night spent at home watching a movie. But, this time I didn't mind, as my husband and I watched a great movie, "The Way Way Back." Did you hear all the buzz about this coming of age movie starring funny man Steve Carell during the summer, when it played in theaters? This was one movie I really wanted to see on the big screen, but missed. So, I, along with my husband, who is also a big Steve Carell fan, were eagerly awaiting for its arrival to either Blu-ray or DVD.
Now you would never expect to see Steve Carell, famous for his role on the hit show, The Office, where he played the boss, Michael Scott. But, I have to say that after watching him in this role, I don't think this movie would have been as good, if he didn't play the role of Pam's (Toni Collette) overbearing boyfriend. Like most coming of age movies, this movie takes place in the summer, and follows 14-yr. old Duncan as he vacations with his mom and her boyfriend.
What really make this movie a favorite of mine was how the movie is being told from Duncan's point of view. This comedy-drama is one of the best coming of age movies I have seen in a long time. And, even though the story line is predictable, the cast of characters and their individual storyline, paired with how they play off each other, make this movie a treat to watch, and leave you glued to the television.
And, don't forget to check out the bonus featurettes, deleted scenes and the hilarious "Making of" exclusive. I can't wait to watch this movie again, as it really was a great way to unwind and spend a quiet date night at home -- with lots of laughs. :-)
