Synopsis:
“The King has come! Even for a little one like me.”
Do you ever feel like you are too small or too ordinary? That is just how Itsy and Bitsy feel. When these two charming little mice hear that a King is coming to Bethlehem, they set off with great enthusiasm to find Him. Along the way, they are met with discouraging words telling them they are too little and unimportant for any king. Just when Itsy and Bitsy begin to believe that they really aren’t big enough for the new King, they learn that Christ the King has indeed come for everyone.
Crafted by master storyteller Max Lucado, Itsy Bitsy Christmas helps children understand God’s great love and know that He sent His Son for all of us—little or big, young or old."
My Thoughts:
Even though this book is geared towards children ages 4-7 yrs. of age, Savannah, who is 3, thoroughly enjoyed it. What caught her eye was the beautiful illustrations, of which she could stare a page for an extended length of time, just to take in all the fine details. The story itself it great for this time of year, as it reminds children both young and old (as well as adults who forget) that God loves us, and that we are all special and important to him, no matter your size or age. It is always nice to have reminders like this, as adults with their busy schedules may forget this, and children who are just learning about God may think they don't matter to him.
The use of adorable animals characters, including Itsy and Bitsy, the two mice who the story centers around, really keep children engaged and interested in the book. Since receiving this book from the folks at Tommy Nelson, I have had the opportunity to share it with my girls, as well as my 6 yr. old nephew and 8 yr. of niece. All of them enjoyed the book thoroughly, and have asked on numerous occasions for me to read it again -- that is, if they are not flipping through the pages of the book to look at the illustrations themselves. And, when we are done with the story, I always make a point to talk about the lesson learned in the book, and remind the kids that they are all important to God, and that he loves them all the same, no matter their differences. This is truly one book worth picking up to share with your children this holiday season -- and year round for that matter. It is definitely one that I will be reading to the kids for years to come.
