I have always loved baking, especially growing up and spending time with my Nana in her kitchen. Being Italian, she had a love for food, and always wanted to make sure guests who came through her home were fed, and fed well. :-) Her specialty was Italian cookies and pastries, and during the Halloween, she would always have the grandchildren over to help her with cookies and cookie decorating. Now that I have children of my own, I love being able to share some of my loves/hobbies with them, including baking in the kitchen. When I am not making family favorite recipes passed down from my Nana, I love trying out new recipes, or simply pulling a cake mix from the pantry and making cupcakes with the girls. And, yesterday afternoon, the girls and I had a blast baking up batches of cupcakes to decorate and display on our new Sweet Creations Halloween Cupcake Display from Good Cook.
Like a shared the other day, over the next couple of weeks I would be sharing fun Halloween challenges that I and other Good Cook Experts (bloggers) would be undertaking. First up, create and decorate cupcakes to display on the easy to assemble Good Cook Halloween Cupcake Display. When you think of Halloween you think of spooky, scary things. But, with two little girls, they are more into girly, sparkly things. So, when I asked them how they wanted to decorate the cupcakes we made, they asked for flowers, and animal characters. :-) After having watched Monsters Inc. earlier in the day, they asked for me to make one of the characters, Mike -- the one with the one big eye. Now, I am not a good drawer, so I knew I would not be able to pipe icing and decorate a cupcake to look like Mike. So, instead, I pulled out candy decorations we had picked up a few weeks ago at Michaels, and used these to decorate the cupcakes. Not being very artsy, I have to say that the cupcakes came out nice. Don't you think?
While the girls love to help me stir, mix and pour, their favorite part by far is the sampling. And, after telling them that if they finish their entire dinner, they could have a cupcake, they both couldn't wait to eat and finish their dinner. Usually we have to fight with them to eat at least half the food on the plate. But, just knowing that they would be rewarded with a cupcake, made them want to finish their dinner that much quicker. :-) And, how did the cupcakes taste? Let's just say that they girls had a smile on her faces, which was covered in icing and vanilla cupcake crumbles. :-)
Do you love to get in the kitchen and bake during the holidays? What about Halloween? Any special recipes or treats you like to whip up? Tomorrow, we will be putting together and decorating a Hunted House made from homemade sugar cookie dough and the Haunted House Cookie Cutter Set from Good Cook. I have heard from other bloggers that putting together the house was a struggle, so I am getting myself ready for this challenge. Stay tuned for my post and photos. The girls can't wait to decorate the Halloween Haunted House with candies they picked up with Daddy from the store. I had to stash the bags, as they were having too much fun earlier today sampling the different sweet treats with my husband. :-)
If you are looking for fun ways to get the family together, and celebrate Halloween, why not pick up the Hunted House Cookie Cutter Set, Halloween Cupcake Display or even the Halloween Cake Pops Press from Good Cook?
