Have you ever heard of Zaycon Foods? I hadn't until I was contacted by USFamilyGuide.com and asked to write a review of my experience with Zaycon Foods, after picking up 40 lbs. of chicken at one of their drive-thru pick up sites. Drive thru pick up for chicken? Hmm. This sounded interest. And, when I found out that you could get 40 lbs. of fresh boneless chicken breast for only $73.60, I said, "Where do I sign up?" :-)
Setting
up an account and placing my order online for the 40 lbs. of boneless
chicken breasts from Zaycon Foods was a breeze, and took only a few
minutes. In addition to signing up for the chicken event, I was also
about to browse the US map and see what other events, like hamburger,
bacon, fruit, milk, pork sausage, and honey were available.
Unfortunately, only the chicken event
was taking place in the New England area. But, I did share Zaycon
Foods and their upcoming events with family and friends who lived in
other parts of the USA, where other events were taking place. Like me,
they had never heard about Zaycon Foods and their drive through pick up
service, but were eager to learn more and check out the website.
When
the day arrived for me to pick up my 40 lb. box of chicken, I enlisted
the help of my dad to help carry the box, if I had to pick up off the
truck myself. Remember I have never been to one of these drive thru's,
so I didn't know if they would help loading the box of chicken in my car
or not. I had heard from a few other bloggers who shared thoughts on
their Zaycon Foods pick up that their deliveries were delayed due to
truck issues, etc. I was hoping this wouldn't happen to me, as I had
the girls with my mom, and needed to get back to help feed them lunch
and put them down for a nap. Unfortunately, there was a slight delay of
15 minutes due to issues with the truck. But, when it finally arrived,
the Zaycon Foods staff on hand apologized over and over again for the
delay, as they helped load the box of food into our truck.
It was such a
smooth transition, and one that I found interesting and fun. The
entire bowling alley parking lot we were in (as Zaycon Foods works out
different locations for each event pickup and these may include bowling
alley parking lots, churches, etc.) was filled with cars waiting for
their chicken pick ups.
I was able to walk around talk to a few people,
and was surprised at how many repeat customers were there. They kept
raving about the price of the boxes, the overall quality of the chicken
breasts, and how this pick up will go them through the winter and early
spring, until their next pick up.
This is the size of butterfly boneless chicken breast you get -- with about 13-15 of these pieces.

There will be small amounts of naturally occurring liquids (i.e.,"chicken juice") in each bag and case. Chicken breasts typically come in double-lobed pairs ("butterfly") and will have small attached amounts of fat. Some trimming may be required.]
I
have to admit, as I was taking the chicken out of the box when I
returned home, I felt a little overwhelmed. I had never seen boneless
chicken breasts this big.
You could cut one breast in half and it would
equal the equivalent of what you would purchase at the market for $8+
dollars a package. I ended up splitting some of the breasts in half,
cubing other breasts and slicing some into cutlets. I kept a few pounds
out for cooking up that week, while the rest was placed in freezer bags
for use at a later date. Prior to my pick up I went through my
cookbooks and loose recipes to find chicken recipes I could make with
all the chicken I was bringing home. I ended up making chicken tortilla
soup the first night and then followed up mid week with chicken cacciatore in the crock pot. Everything tasted amazing, and I have to
say that the flavor was better than in the past when I used chicken from
the grocery store. And, unlike the grocery store chicken which seemed
to have a mild smell from packaging, the chicken from Zaycon Foods
smelled like chicken should be, and have a nice color to it.
Now
that I have experienced the Zaycon Foods experience, I can see why so
many people are repeat customers. And, I can say that when the chicken
event rolls back around in the Spring 2014, I will be waiting in line
wherever the closest meetup is, to get my box of boneless chicken
breasts. :-) Will you be joining me? Click here to learn more about

Here is more about Zaycon Foods for those not familiar with their service:
"The answer is strength in numbers. And not our numbers, yours! Zaycon Foods can sell its products at bulk rate prices to individual consumers and families because our unique sales event business model brings lots of people together, adding all their purchasing power into a combined bulk food purchase. And when you buy as part of a group that’s committing to such a large purchase, the power is in the hands of the purchaser! It’s the ultimate group buy in terms of both price and consumer empowerment.
You can pre-select exactly what you want to order from a given Zaycon sales event – sometimes you may want to stock up on our amazing meaty back ribs and sometimes it might be all about the Zaycon bacon – and then, on the day of the sales event, you and a whole big bunch of your neighbors will find yourselves in a nearby parking lot watching as an entire tractor trailer’s worth of high quality natural food is unloaded into all of your cars! You will be amazed at how quickly one of our refrigerated trucks goes from being filled with natural, fresh chicken or hundreds of gallons of grade A non-homogenized milk to being empty and back on its way to the farm!
A Zaycon Foods truck sales event often lasts less time than you would spend on a trip to the grocery store, yet you will leave with a whole lot more food than you’d get at the market, and for much better prices, too!
When you use the Zaycon Foods sales event as your preferred place to purchase meats, milk, and any of our other fine products, you get advantages even beyond the bulk pricing that comes with our special sales model. You also have the peace of mind of knowing exactly what you’re going to get! A trip to the grocery store can involve wasted time wandering around looking for various foods spread out across the store; at a Zaycon Foods parking lot meat truck delivery (or milk or berries or fish delivery, too!) you have pre-ordered your foods, so all you have to do is show up and wait for our friendly staffers and volunteers to load up your car.
Also, unlike in the grocery store, the prices you will pay for a Zaycon Foods product are locked in on our website, so you will know how much you are going to spend before you have committed to a purchase.
At a supermarket, you might pay one price for chicken on one day, and then a higher price on another day. With Zaycon, you decide that you want to order a case of our fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts, you check the price and then you commit to it, knowing that from that moment on, we are committed to getting you your fresh, natural food!"
