Next to Christmas, my next favorite holiday is Halloween. Prior to welcoming our daughters in 2010 and 2011, my husband and I used to go to a friend's annual Halloween Costume Party. Even though we would wear wacky, oftentimes matching or couple costumes, we never won. But, once the girls came, our way of celebrating Halloween changed. Instead of sticking the girls with a babysitter to attend this annual Halloween party, we opted for a more family friendly take on the Halloween. :-) And, this year we are even more excited about Halloween, as both girls are walking, and Savannah is at the age where she is getting into celebrating fun holidays and the traditions, like trick-or-treating, that go along with it.
While Savannah is excited for Halloween as she will be either Thomas the Tank Engine or Wilson from Chuggington -- poor Arabella will get the costume Savannah doesn't choose -- I think my husband and I are most excited. No, not because of all the candy we will get to eat from the girls' trick-or-treat bags, but just because I can't wait to snap all the cute photos of them trick-or-treating for the first time, and being all dressed up in their train costumes. I can't wait to share photos with you all, as well as see what your children go as for Halloween, so be sure to share them on Facebook, etc.
Besides staring at the calendar and mentally counting down the days until Halloween, I was looking for a fun way to get the girls excited. And, I have just the thing -- a Halloween Countdown Calendar from Countdown Cal. You may remember reading a review this past Easter on a countdown calendar -- these same people now offer a fun, chocolate filled advent calendar for Halloween that is spooktacular! Sorry, I had to type it! :-) And, thanks to the folks at Countdown Cal, they sent along three calendars (1 for review and 2 to use starting October 16th, to countdown to Halloween).
Like most mail days, the girls saw the Halloween Countdown Calendar before I could hide it on them. Savannah kept asking what it was, and trying to sneak around the kitchen island to get a better look. I gave in and showed them the chocolate filled countdown calendar. After explaining that we had to wait for October 16th to start opening the 16 flaps on the calendars (one for each of them), Savannah, who now knows how to count, said, "Mommy, there are three calendars." Then, unexpectedly, she continued -- "One is for review." I guess I have been blogging long enough that she knows the review process. Not being able to object, I told them they could open one of the flaps on the review countdown calendar and try the foil-wrapped milk chocolate flavored treat, which is OUD certified Kosher, found behind it. Each foil-wrapped chocolate has a fun bewitching Halloween character illustration that will get kids exciting about Halloween.
Like the Easter countdown calendar, this Halloween calendar also has a daily fun game. "Printed under each flap is a Halloween mini picture to find in the spooky cemetery scene on the back of the box.
Also printed under each flap is the number of days remaining until Halloween, helping kids countdown to Halloween!" I don't know about you, but I think this is a fun way to countdown to Halloween. While kids will get a bag full of candy on Halloween, counting down the days until the big night has never been more fun. From now on, my family (and friends who I have raved about this countdown calendar to), will be picking up this and the Easter countdown calendar, to count down until the holiday. How about you?
