My Thoughts:
Just the other day I watched an animated children's movie about a prodigal pig (based on the Prodigal Son story). And, last night I sat down with my husband to watch this recent release, starring Best New Country Music Female Vocalist for 2012, as she played the role of the Prodigal Daughter. It was a nice change to see films like this that people of faith and those searching for their higher power or path to return to their faith, would enjoy watching.
In this movie, Jana Kramer plays Faith, who ends up returning back to her family's hometown after her husband is arrested for fraud. Now, you would think that returning home when times get tough would be a good thing. But, for Faith, it is a difficult return, as she hasn't spoken to her father and sister since her mother passed away four years earlier. Like in the Prodigal Son, which is about forgiveness and unconditional love, Faith's father welcomes her back with open arms, and tries to mend the broken relationship between Faith and her sister Olivia.
Like many films that include country music stars, the film taps into Jana Kramer's stellar vocal abilities but having her character in the movie, once have a passion for music. Because of everything going on in her life, including the loss of her mom, she has lost her creativity and love for music. But, once Faith meets up with an old friend, Lee, that spark is reignited and we see Faith and the vocal abilities that garnered Jana Kramer 2012's Best New Female Vocalist, shine though as she sings her heart out.
While this movie is family friendly and would be enjoyed by by older children ages 10+, I found it to be a great girls night in or date night movie. Like I said, my husband and I ended up watching it, and both thoroughly enjoyed it. Make sure you watch the bonus music video, "The First Time and Last Time," with Jana Kramer -- it really adds to the movie, and if you are fans of this country artist, you will enjoy it. I am counting down the days until she will be playing at our local 4-H fair. Can't wait to see her live! :-)
