While my girls are not yet in high school or college, I do have relatives and friends whose children will be. As I listen to them talk about what they need to get for their children before school starts, makes me feel old, as I never needed things like a laptop lock, safe for cell phones and other personal belongings, etc. Back in the day, well about 30 years ago, before cell phones and laptops came into the picture, all we needed beyond clothing, a backpack and paper school supplies was a Master Lock for the locker we would be assigned on the first day of school. This was a big change from middle school, where they still have coat racks and shelves outside the classroom. No one would have though to steal your personal belongings -- mainly because we didn't bring anything expensive to school to store.
But, oh how times have changed, and now many high schools and colleges require students to buy or rent a laptop, and allow them to carry their phones on them in case of emergencies, etc. In addition, kids are also bringing more expensive clothing and handbags to school, which also need to be locked up. According to a 2011 National Retail Federal Study, "College freshmen spend an average of $281 of their back to school budgets on electronics." And, of these electronics purchased, "cell phones, iPods and laptops are the most commonly stolen items on college campuses" -- this according to an ORC International Report 'School/Theft Statistics' prepared for Master Lock April 11, 2012. Because of this, parents are still having to buy Master Lock padlock for the lockers, but also looking into other ways to have their kids lock up their valuables in high school lockers and college dorm rooms. And, thanks to Master Lock, "the world’s largest manufacturer of padlocks and related security products since 1921," they have you covered.
I can't tell you how many times I would forget my padlock combination and need to have it cut off my locker and a new one bought. Oh, how I wished back then that there was a better way for those of us who forget our combinations, or even those who had trouble with the rotary dial padlock, to use padlocks with ease. Well, Master Lock finally answered my prayers in 2010 (a little too late), when they replaced the old traditional padlock with a more modern one called the Speed Dial. This new padlock opens on directional movements (up, down, left, right) instead of the traditional rotary dial. And, if that wasn't enough, in 2012, Master Lock released the first-ever digital padlock called the dialSpeed. "This lock offers ultrafast entry and features an electronic light-up keypad with a unique online Backup Master Code that users can retrieve from masterlockvault.com. It stores multiple resettable guest codes and sports a sleek, ergonomic design for one-handed, no-look operation to keep lockers stylish and secure."
I know what you are thinking. Shouldn't our kids just go to school to learn, and not have to worry about all this other stuff? Like I said, times have changed, and children of all ages have their own cell phones, laptops, iPads, iPods, etc. My neighbor up the street has the family phone plan and has a phone for the 4 yr. old to have on her belonging when in daycare. Crazy, I know. But, I can't say anything in regards to technology with my girls, as Savannah started using her Dad's iPad when she was 1 yr. old, and now Arabella is following suit. And, whenever we travel, this comes with us, or they are using our phones to play with apps. When traveling, we make sure that the hotel rooms have safes to lock up these expensive personal belongings, because if not locked up, they will walk off. :-)

I wish I had the Master Lock 5900D SafeSpace last month when we went away overnight on vacation. We checked into the hotel, only to find that they didn't have a personal safe. So, instead of being able to lock up our gadgets while the girls swam in the indoor pool, we have to bring them back to the car, hide them under the seats and lock the car --- Not convenient at all. Just the other day, I was sent a sample of the 5900D SafeSpace. I thought it was neat when I first read about it online. But, once I saw it up close, I couldn't wait to try out. I also couldn't wait to show family and friends will high school and college age kids, as this 5900D SafeSpace would definitely come in handy for the start of the school year, and help keep their kid's expensive gadgets and phones safe and secure. And, as only $27.59, you can't go wrong for the price. I can see this also being a great gift to give a Mom or Dad or even grandparent who travels for work, and spends time in hotels, etc. Or, if you are like my family and spend an occasional overnight or weekend stay in a hotel while on vacation, the 5900D SafeSpace is small enough to throw in the suitcase, and have on hand, in case the place you are staying at doesn't have a safe for you to use.
While I have no upcoming hotel stays planned, to try out the 5900D SafeSpace 5900D SafeSpace to take with us. So, if you are planning last minute summer getaways or have children heading off to high school and college this fall, why not pick up the 5900D SafeSpace? While protecting your valuable assets, it will also be bringing you peace of mind. Be prepared as others who see the 5900D SafeSpace will ask you about it, and want one for themselves. :-)
