What a blast we had this past holiday weekend. I ended up having family and friends over to enjoy the pool and have a BBQ. With the recent heat wave we have had here in New England, we are making sure to take advantage of this warm weather, as we know it will not be around for long. :-)
Being a blogger, I am always sent snacks and food to try. Oftentimes I am familiar with the brands, so know how they taste, while other times they are new to market, making them fun to try. Just days prior to my planned gathering, the UPS driver dropped off a package. I had signed up to do a review and giveaway of Wholly Guacamole and Salsa products, but wasn't expecting it to arrive so soon. But, it was a great surprise, as I opened the cooler chest to find it filled to the brim with an assortment of salsas and guacamole products to sample. I knew that my family and friends would be in for a treat on Saturday, when I would enlist their help in sampling the different flavors.
So, off to the store I went to pick up more supplies for our party, including tortilla chips, burgers, etc. My basic BBQ was turning into a fun Mexican themed party. :-) I ended up making a little Nacho Trifles, which I had stumbled across after reading another blogger's post with recipe. She took the idea of a 5-layer trifle dip and made little cups of dipping goodness. :-) Below is the recipe, in case you want to try for your next party, etc.:
Nacho Trifles
Makes 6
- 1 Whole Avocado, Diced
- 2 Tbsp. Lime Juice
- 1/2 Cup Crushed Tortilla Chips
- 1/2 Cup Salsa
- 1/2 Cup Plain Greek Yogurt or Sour Cream
- 1/2 Cup Shredded Cheddar and Monterrey Jack Blend
Mix diced avocado with lime juice.
In six separate trifle cups, layer the ingredients: Chips on the
bottom, then cheese, then avocados, then salsa, then sour cream. Press
each layer into the cup as you go to keep the layers distinguished.
Sprinkle with shredded cheese and top with a piece of a tortilla chip.
Serve with a spoon. Can also be served with extra tortilla chips for dipping.

In place of the whole avocado, I ended up using the different Wholly Guacamole products I was sent to sample. And, I added layers of corn and black beans, as my girls love to pick them up and eat them. Because the cups didn't hold that much, I ended up having other bowls available that were filling with seasoned ground beef, diced tomatoes and refried beans. Guests could choose to dip the chips into the little nacho trifles, or scoop it out into a flour tortilla, taco shell, or over a mixed green salad, and then add more toppings, to make a great meal. I was surprised at what a hit our BBQ turned Mexican fiesta was. While we still cooked up burgers so that guests could try the avocado on, many flocked to the table with all the salsas and guacamole products to sample.
I know what you are thinking, what is go great about salsa and guacamole? Have you tried Wholly Guacamole or Salsa products? I am guessing not, if you asked this question. :-) Unlike other store-bought salsas and guacamole products, Wholly Guacamole offers an assortment of flavored salsas that will have your taste buds singing and dancing. Usually I prefer a mild salsa, but love the kick that their classic hot! salsa has. Here are just some of the salsa flavors available from besides their popular classic mild and classic medium salsas -- pineapple, red pepper mango, roasted tomato (my favorite), guacamole and spicy pico and avocado verde (the hit at my cookout). I know you and your family will have just as much fun as mine did sampling each and every salsa flavor to find your favorite. :-) Go ahead, grab a bag of chips and a sampling of Wholly Salsas and starting dipping -- just don't double dip! :-)
In addition to the different salsas, you can also enjoy an assortment of Wholly Guacamole and Wholly Avocado products, which are available as on-the-go pouches, in fun serving trays, or in a pouch.
My husband and I love to add the chunky avocado to our burgers and chicken patties.
We even use the guac as a spread before we will our tortilla or burrito wraps with our favorite fixings. And, at my gathering the other day, hands down the surprising favorite of all the Wholly products sent to sample was the Wholly Guacamole products. I kept hearing my guests say how they usually never use guacamole dips or spreads, but loved the convenience and ease of use the new tray containers made serving up these Wholly guacamole products. They all couldn't get over the fresh taste of the 100% ripe avocados, and how the product was not quality or tasted like processed foods, like others they have tried on the supermarket shelves. I think my party ended up winning over new Wholly Guacamole fans, while reminding fans of their products while they love them so much!
After everyone left, I got myself psyched up to clean up and find a place in the refrigerator for all the leftover food. When I arrived at the table where I had all the Wholly products, I had to wipe my eyes and take a a double take. There was nothing left, except for a few tortilla chip crumbs and a bunch of empty dishes. One person even took the time to write "Thank you" on a napkin next to the empty Wholly Salsa containers. I guess my impromptu Wholly Guacamole taste party was a hit. And, it made clean up a breeze. The only one disappointed was my husband as he thought I had stashed a few Wholly Avocado packets for us to use on the leftover burgers. Sorry, honey! :-) So, while I put away the outdoor toys, etc, he ran to the market and picked up more Wholly products, and we settled in and enjoyed one last hamburger, slathered up avocado goodness from Wholly Guacamole. :-)
From starters, sides, dips and snacks, to main dishes, grilling and even desserts, you will be amazed at the different recipes available to try. My favorite so far is the Spicy Guac Mac and Cheese.
