"For the past 19 years, Ford has fought the battle against breast cancer 365 days a year, raising more than $120 million for the cause with $4.7 million in donations generated from Warrior wear and gear."
This is just astounding. I knew that Ford was dedicating to supporting breast cancer survivors, as well as those battling this deadly disease -- but, $4.7 million in donations -- Wow!!!
Launched in 2012, "Models of Courage" is a program that highlights the stories of breast cancer survivors, both men and women. Each person who shares their story serves as a Ford Warrior in Pink role model, inspiring others in the fight against breast cancer.
In addition to breast cancer survivors sharing their personal stories, Ford Motor Company also offers a special Ford Warriors in Pink Collection of apparel and accessories, where 100% of the net proceeds benefits breast cancer charities. I was recently sent a few items from their current 2013 collection, and have to say that I feel proud wearing the t-shirts and scarf around.
I love it when people stop me and ask me what the design on the Warriors in Pink t-shirt I was wearing at the time stood for, while others love the beautiful Warriors in Pink scarf. This oftentimes leads me to share more about the Ford Warriors in Pink Campaign, and how they can purchase these same t-shirts and scarf, to help benefit breast cancer charities. When they hear that 100% of the net proceeds go to these charities, they can't believe it, as you usually only see 10-15% going to charities for other vendors supporting the breast cancer cause.
In addition to the shirts and scarf I was sent to review, you can also find apparel for both men and women including the ones shown below.
I showed my husband the men's collection and asked him which shirt he wanted, as I wanted to show my support, as a cancer survivor, by purchasing additional Ford Warriors in Pink apparel for my family. While I suffered from another form of cancer, just having and battling cancer creates a bond with other cancer survivors, as you go through similar treatments and have to deal with the side effects of chemo and radiation. I was only 28 years old when I received my stage 2 nasopharyngeal carcinoma diagnosis, making me a young cancer survivor. But, I would have daily radiation, along with weekly chemo, and be seated next to breast cancer survivors of all ages. I listened to their stories, as some were battling this disease for the 2nd or 3rd time. Others had a family history of the disease, and a few never thought they would get cancer as they were so healthy. Cancer can strike anyone, young or old, male or female. And, once you get the diagnosis, you are knocked down, feeling numb, confused, angry, scared, etc. You have to be able to pick yourself up, and seek out the treatment that is right for you, in hopes to be able to rid your body of cancer. I am thankful for being alive, and count my lucky stars each day, as I get to spend time with my daughters and family. I am also grateful for the friendships I have made during my cancer treatment with other cancer survivors...many whom are breast cancer survivors.
So, when I wear my Ford Warriors in Pink apparel, I feel like I am showing my support for my friends who are survivors, as well as honoring close family and friends who were not able to call themselves survivors, and have passed away. You don't have to be a breast cancer survivor or even know someone personally who is battling this disease, or who has won, to show your support by purchasing apparel and accessories from the 2013 Ford Warriors in Pink collection. Just knowing that your purchase helps breast cancer charities will leave you with a great feeling, knowing you are helping educate and inspire others as we all stand up against cancer.
When you purchase apparel and accessories from the Warriors in Pink collection at www.fordcares.com, you will have the opportunity to choose which breast cancer charity to support with their apparel purchase at checkout. The four organizations highlighted include:
- Susan G. Komen ®—Komen's promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality of care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, the organization has invested almost $2 billion to fulfill its promise, working to end breast cancer in the U.S. and throughout the world through groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 50 countries.
- Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation (DSLRF)—With more than 365,000 grassroots volunteers from around the country, Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation conducts, funds and fast tracks research with the unique mission of creating a future without breast cancer by understanding the causes and ways to prevent it.
- The Pink Fund—Provides financial aid in the form of direct bill payment on behalf of breast cancer patients in active treatment. Many patients are unable to work during treatment. Others lose their jobs. With mounting bills and either no income or severely limited income, they quickly find themselves in dire financial distress. The Pink Fund provides Real Help Now.
- Young Survival Coalition (YSC)—The Young Survival Coalition directly improves the lives of thousands of young women with breast cancer. One in eight women diagnosed with breast cancer are younger than 45 years old. YSC provides free resources and programs to support, educate and empower these women.
Having experienced cancer at a young age myself, I know how charities like this one, who provide educational programming and resources free of charge to patients and their families, is needed, and how it helps everyone while undergoing the cancer journey. I feel grateful to be able to support such a worthwhile cause, as well as be able to share some amazing and oh so stylish apparel and accessories with you. These products from Warriors in Pink would make for a great birthday or even upcoming holiday season gift idea. And, with reasonable prices, you will not be breaking the bank to sport comfortable and stylish clothes -- that will hold a special meaning to you when you wear them.
