Challenge Your Mind with a Fun New Laser Game from ThinkFun (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent a sample from the folks at ThinkFun in order to write up an honest review.  The views shared are mine and mine alone.

Keep your kids' minds sharp, as well as your own this summer with a fun new game from ThinkFun called Laser Maze.  Like the name suggests, this game comes with a laser, that will have your mind going crazy as you try and solve 1 of 60 beginner to expert challenge cards by manipulating the laser beam to hit targets to win.  I was recently sent this game to review, and have to say that I was hooked after the first try.  I don't know about you, but one of my guilty pleasures/weaknesses is games, especially the ones you find on online social media sites or apps for the iPad.  I can't tell you how many times I have stayed up through the night trying to get to the next level on these games, or playing against others.  But, the plus about logic games like these is that it keeps my mommy brain sharp.  After spending an entire day with two toddlers at home, who are just starting to talk and make sentences, logic games really help to get my mind off to-do lists and relax after a hectic day with the kids.

My husband and I have been having Friday night date nights at home as the girls and I have been sick these past few months on and off with head colds.  So, when we are not catching up on missed television shows or renting movies to watch, we love to pull out board games to play.  Once the board games come out, so does my competitive side. :-)  And, if I don't win the first time, there will be a re-match. :-) Because Laser Maze from ThinkFun is only a one player game, my husband and I took turns seeing how many challenges we could complete, without giving up and having to flip the challenge card over to see the solution.

We both thought we were on a roll as we completed the easy beginner challenges, but quickly the game turned difficult as the challenges required more logic.  This is when the game got good.  As my husband and I sweated it out, we scratched out heads, sighed and even got up and walked around the room, as we tried to complete as many of the challenge cards as possible.  I ended up completing the first 27 challenges before needing a mind break, while my husband was able to complete 25. :-)  We ended up playing two more times before we were both mentally drained -- in a good way. And, as we were putting away the pieces to the game, we both agreed that this is our new "favorite game" to play, and one that we can enjoy when we need a way to unwind or de-stress.  Just last night, after 2 hours of struggling to get the girls to go to bed, I found myself sitting at the dining room table playing Laser Maze.  While he said he was trying to clear his head, I think he was just practicing for our next rematch on Friday night. :-)  I will definitely have to find time this week to get in a few practice rounds, too.

So, if you love logic games, or fun single player games, you will love this new game from ThinkFun. It really does put your mind to work, as you try to solve these beam-bending challenges.  Best suited for children ages 8+, this would also be a great game to get the kids, to help keep their minds sharp over the summer months, all while having a blast playing this cool laser game.
