This summer, Saige Copeland™, American Girl’s popular 2013 Girl of the Year, comes to life in a new feature-length movie from Universal Studios Home Entertainment, An American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky. The movie, releasing on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 2 and airing Saturday, July 13, at 8/7C on NBC, stars Jane Seymour as the beloved Grandma Mimi and introduces Sidney Fullmer as Saige, a talented artist with a passion for horses, in this modern-day story about finding one’s voice.

Nine-year old Saige is excited about the new school year until she discovers that art—her favorite class—has been cut. On top of that, her best friend, Tessa, is spending more and more time with another girl. For support, Saige turns to her grandma Mimi (Seymour), a well-known artist and horsewoman, who encourages her to take action and inspire her community in a fund-raising effort to start an after-school art program. Heartwarming, empowering, and fun, it’s a movie for every girl who has ever dreamed big.

My Thoughts:

Wow, did I feel good last night!  No, not because the girls went to bed relatively -- I wish! :-)  But, because I was the BEST MOM, BEST AUNT, BEST NEIGHBOR.... -- Why you ask?  Well, I surprised all the girls in my family, as well as had a few of the girls from the neighborhood over for a An American Girl:  Saige Paints the Sky screening party, thanks to the folks at American Girl, who sent me an advance screening of this movie, which will run on NBC at 8/7C on Saturday, July 13.  And, yesterday (July 2nd), this movie was released on DVD and Blu-Ray.

My daughter went crazy this year when she found out that Saige Copeland was named Girl of year for 2013, as she loves horses and painting live Saige. So, I knew that she would love this new movie release, which brings the American Doll character to life.  Like the other American Girl dolls, who each have their own unique stories and talents, when their characters love to life in feature films, like last year's "An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars", they become role models to young girls.  As a parent who has seen two American Girl movies so far, I love how young girls are reminded to dream big, never give up, and to be themselves.  In addition, American Girl movies are fun to watch, especially when girls get their friends together to view, as friendships are important in a child's life, and in helping shape and support them as they grow.

By the time the movie started, I had 10 girls ranging from 19 months through 13 yrs. old having a slumber party on the living room floor.  Many had brought their favorite American Girl doll, and knew their back stories, which I was amazed at! :-)  You could feel the anticipation in the room, as the girls eagerly waited for me to start the movie.  I didn't stop hearing the chitter chatter of the girls during the entire film.  You could tell the girls were so into the movie, and loved watching Saige overcome her fears, and show her creative side.  Even the younger viewers were able to relate and feel inspired to dream big like Saige. :-)

When the movie ended, I asked them what they thought of it. I should have called on each girl individually, as they all chimed in at once, as they began raving about how great this American Girl movie was.  They all agreed that Saige found her voice and overcame her fears, as she helped save her friendship and the art program at her new school.  Was she able to remain friends with Tessa and save the art program?  I am not going to tell!!! :-)  You will just have to pick up a copy of  An American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky now available on DVD and Blu-ray in stores as of yesterday, or tune in on Saturday, July 13th at 8/7C when it airs on NBC.  This is definitely one American Girl movie not to be missed.  And, this will not be the only time we will be watching this movie.  My daughter has already asked me to bring it along this upcoming weekend for our 4th of July getaway, where more of her friends, who are also American Girl fans, and a few other cousins will be present.  So, I see another viewing party in our future...which I don't mind, as I also loved the movie! :-)  And, we will be tuning it when it airs on NBC, too.
