Last week I spotlighted Amy Hemmert and Tammy Pelstring of Laptop Lunches Bento Ware. If you missed my interview with them, click here to read it now - http://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2013/05/edit-spotlght-on-mom-amy-hemmert-and.html. Today, I wanted to share more about their Laptop Lunches Bento Ware products, as well as offers you a chance to win either a bento lunch box or one set of bento-buddies.
Like many mom-invented products, the Bento-style lunch box was created out of necessity by two moms who became friends back in 1995. Tammy Pelstring and Amy Hemmert began jogging together and would oftentimes talk about their interests and experiences as volunteers at their children's schools "Of particular interest was the poor-quality school lunches the children brought from home--processed foods high in fat, sodium, and sugar, packaged in wasteful, single-use containers that filled the trash cans and cost a fortune to haul away. Then, during a morning jog in the fall of 2001 they realized that the best way to help parents pack wholesome, low-waste lunches was to provide them with a lunch system that was not only convenient and economical, but also appealing to kids. That's when they started thinking about designing, manufacturing, patenting, and selling Laptop Lunches." These lunch boxes are "the only Bento style lunch box on the market that is made right here in the USA and is still BPA, PVC, PP, lead and toxin free. And, these Bento style Lunch Boxes come with a line of accessories, bags, and creativity tools that helps making lunches easy and fun."
Like I said that week, I have been using the Bento style lunch box as a way to introduce more food options to Savannah, as she still remains a picky eater, and only wants to eat a handful of the same foods each week.
Since receiving the Bento Lunch Box 2.0 in primary colors to sample, meal time has become less stressful and more enjoyable, as I don't have to fight with Savannah to stay at the dining room table to eat her food or play waitress and cook up an assortment of food choices just to have 1-2 items she will eat. Now, I serve Savannah what we are eating, but in a fun way. She loves having us put out her own "big girl" lunch box, which I fill eat compartment with veggies, meat, etc. that we are eating. Savannah loves the colorful boxes that store the different food items, and can take out a compartment when it is empty to either ask for a refill or make room for dessert. :-)
And, when it comes time for snacking, this Bento Lunch Box comes in handy when serving up fresh cut up fruits and veggies to the girls. If, by chance there are leftovers, I can simply close up the lunch box and store it in the refrigerator for later. Or, if we are planning a play date or day trip, I can fill this Bento lunch box with their snacks to bring along. I have found this lunch box to be very handy when we are at restaurants and need to keep the girls entertained and have them snack while they wait for their meals to arrive.
Because of the fun colors, Savannah is having a blast telling my husband and I what each color is, as well as helping to teach Arabella the different colors. Then, she follows up by counting each of the compartments, and lets us know how many have food in them, etc. This adds a nice spin to the lunch box. Now I don't have to stress about meal time headaches, and can have fun sampling new foods with the girls, as Savannah practicing her colors, numbers, and building her vocabulary. :-) Just the other day, I was in a rush and forget to put her lunch box together at dinner time. Savannah was quick to remind me, and offered to help fill the compartments. :-) She even requested some of the new foods I have been introducing, to fill the lunch box with. If you asked me months ago if Savannah would be eating more than just soup, mac and cheese, hot dogs and fries, I would sadly say "No." But, now that we have been using the Bento style Lunch Box, I have seen the change in Savannah's eating habits, and can say that she is warming up to new foods, and now becoming a fan of veggies and so much more!
While this Bento Lunch Box has helped with my picky eater, these lunch boxes will also come in handy for adults to use to transport their lunches to and from work. Say "goodbye" to the old "brown bag lunch" or tacky thermal lunch bag, and say "hello" to Laptop Lunches Bento-Ware. Children will also love taking this Bento-style lunch box to school come the fall. But, in the meantime, they can enjoy their new cool lunch box during day trips to the beach, park, etc., or even a backyard picnic. However your family chooses to use these Bento-style Lunch Boxes, you will love coming up with ways to fill each compartment, making snack or meal time more fun!
