Summary:

"With a “Shredder Nation” following on Twitter and Facebook that continues to grow, Dr. Ian created SHRED while working with people who had success following his previous diet books but had hit stubborn plateaus.

SHRED: The Revolutionary Diet—Six Weeks, Four Inches, Two Sizes integrates all of Dr. Ian’s strategic dieting tools into one plan—like putting all the best players on the field at once to create a can't lose combination.  Combining a low glycemic index diet, meal spacing, and meal replacements, SHRED will have dieters eating constantly—four meals or meal replacements and three snacks a day—over a six week program.

Each week of the SHRED program stands on its own, yet builds on the preceding one:

·         Prime prepares you for the rest of the plan, focusing on meal spacing, proper snacking techniques, and suppressing hunger without consuming too many calories.
·         Challenge is a confidence booster, showing dieters that despite past failures or plans they thought would be too difficult, they actually have what it takes to succeed.
·         Transformation, the toughest week, a critical seven days where most shredders start truly noticing a difference, many dropping a clothing size
·         Ascend combines knowledge and skills of the first three weeks to keep dieters motivated and moving forward
·         Cleanse pays special attention to enhancing your liver’s ability to detoxify your blood.
·         Explode into your new life with the knowledge and skills you’ve developed.  The variety in the types and quantity of food and beverages keeps you moving along from one day to the next."

My Thoughts:

One of the things I hate about getting older is how your metabolism slows down, making it difficult when you want to lose weight.  After having both my daughters in 2010 and 2011, I have found myself struggling to lose the twenty pounds that didn't come off between their births.  And, then once we welcomed Arabella, I didn't have those extra 30 minutes to an hour a day to exercise, like I did when Savannah was born.  I would fit my exercising in during one of her two naps a day, with the other nap being used for a shower and to get ready for the day.  But, with two babies in the mix, naps didn't coincide with one another, and the few minutes I did find were spent resting myself or showering.  So, losing those extra pounds moved to the back burning.

But, now with the new year, I like so many others, have made a resolution to lose the weight one and for all.  Over the years, before kids, I read about and tried over a dozen weight loss plans/diets, only to find that they didn't work for you, or only helped me lose 3-5 pounds, and not the 10+ they raved about.  I don't know about you, but this would often leave me discouraged, and give up rather easily.  This year, however, with age and a slower metabolism against me, I needed to find a weight loss plan to would work for me, and help me once and for all shed the baby weight.  This is where "Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks 4 Inches 2 Sizes" by Dr. Ian K. Smith comes in.

Oven the holidays I read this book, but didn't actually start the diet plan until Jan. 1st, as I told myself I would enjoy the holiday dinners with family before starting the year off fresh.  It has only been 6 days into my weight loss journey, and I have already lost 5 pounds, which astounds me.  Usually, it would take about a month to see a 3-5 pound weight loss with other plans, and I would struggle to stay on the diet, as the meal plans always left me hungry and sluggish.

So, what is different about this diet, that really helps me see results?:

"Shred combines a low GI diet, meal spacing, and meal replacements. Those who follow Shred will constantly be eating (every three and a half hours!), four meals or meal replacements (soups, smoothies, shakes) and 3 snacks a day, over a six week program. Shred also introduces Dr. Ian's concept of "Diet Confusion". Diet Confusion, like muscle confusion, tricks the body and revs up its performance. In the same way you need to vary your workout to see results, switch up your food intake to boost your metabolism."

I am finding that by eating every 3 1/2 hours really does work for me as a busy mom, as I am not finding myself snacking on or reaching for unhealthy food to tide me over until lunch or dinner.  And, because the girls are on a soup kick with the cold winter months, I can enjoy a bowl of soup with them.  Who knew that by switching up your food intake you could increase your metabolism?  I didn't think you could get your metabolism back that you had in your twenties, but with this new diet plan, I am feeling great and have more energy, all while the weight is coming off.  I can't wait to finish off the 6 week plan and see how much I can lose -- hopefully all twenty pounds.  I will definitely keep you posted.

So, if you have made a resolution this year to lose weight and are looking for a diet plan that actually works, why not give "Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks 4 Inches 2 Sizes" by Dr. Ian K. Smith a try?  You have nothing to lose....well, that is except the weight. :-)

Good luck!
