Synopsis:

"Every Christian parent today wrestles with the challenge of how to raise kids in a God-honoring, morally sound way. In ETCHED . . . UPON MY HEART, Jill Kelly offers up the unforgettable episodes of her life-some sorrowful, others filled with joy-as a "living epistle" to her daughters. For the many other Christian mothers who also long to pass on their hard-won knowledge of God's steadfast love and healing grace to their children, Kelly's down-to-earth reflections provide an inspiring example.

As she writes, "God will break our hearts, but He will hold the pieces. He will cradle us and redeem every tear we cry." Although great personal pain-her young son Hunter's death, her husband's infidelity-informs these pages, Kelly's story is ultimately one of forgiveness, reconciliation, and hope. Through the moments in time that Jill Kelly recounts, readers will recognize the daily reality and eternal value of God's plan for their own lives.

"Kelly’s touching emotional prose, written with remarkable honesty and tenderness, takes readers into the most private moments of her family’s life and deals realistically with the challenges she’s faced, such as a terminally ill son, an unfaithful husband, and the natural tension from raising Christian kids in a secular society. "Etched...Upon My Heart is an extension of my soul; the heartbeat of what I have learned thus far in my journey as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and child of God,” writes Kelly."

My Thoughts:

I can't believe I found time to read two amazing books, recently.  I just shared my review of Melissa Francis' new book, and now want to share about Jill Kelly's new book, Etched Upon My Heart, another personal story that was hard to put down.  Jill Kelly's book was also about heartbreak, but in a different sense, as hers came when she found out her son was diagnosed with and eventually passed away from Krabbe Leukodystrophy.  Instead of having her grieving turn into a life long depression, she took this personally tragic event in her life and chose to see the greater good of God's plan.  Jill shares her spiritual journey in this inspirational book, which covers such topics as forgiveness, reconciliation, and hope. She tells us of her many personal and sometimes painful situations in her lifetime and how these events led her to understand that this was all part of God’s plan, and that he would walk with her through the pain and help her grow stronger as a person.  Jill is a very spiritual person and writes about God and his plan for each of us take in and try to apply to our own lives.  You don't have to be a religious person to be moved by Jill's personal story.  If you ever questioned why things happen, like losing a child, getting cancer, etc., then hopefully after you read Jill's book and see how she turned her life over to God and had him lead her on her path in life, through his plan, you will begin to understand and accept why things happen.  For example, on pg. 110 Jill says “Before you took life’s first breath, the script for your entire life was written.  Every day ordained for you was already written in His book.”  Jill stresses that “God is faithful” and “he cannot be shaken”. God is always with us, we just need to reach out to him.  “God will break our hearts” but he will always be with us and see us through."

Each chapter of this book reflects on a particular part in Jill's life and how her faith carried her through.  You will read about her relationship with her parents, her children and her husband, and will find yourself being moved by the love she has for each of them.  But, the biggest part and reason for her book, is about her son Hunter, who was born with Krabbe Leukodystrophy, and how the doctor’s told her that he wouldn’t live past two.  Hunter proved them wrong with the love around him, and ended up living to be eight years old, before succumbing to his illness.  In addition, Jill talks about Hunter’s Foundation, started by her and the people she has met through her appearances.

This book was very moving and at times brought me to tears. It will make you realize that life goes on--Each of us continue to grow as a person through the trials and tribulations of our lives.  And, through your faith in God, you will be able to move on to the next chapter of your life with God being by your side to help you -- through the good times and bad -- because, God has a plan for all of us.  We might not see it clearly at times, but if you give yourself over to him, in time you will begin to see the bigger picture and purpose for being on this Earth.  Don't give up, even if you feel you are continually knocked down, as things will get better, and you will become a stronger person as a result of your experiences.
