Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

""Everybody’s favorite wimp, Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), is back for three times the fun in the latest film based on the super-popular book series! When Greg’s dad (Steve Zahn) threatens to send him to military school if he doesn’t stay out of trouble, Greg finds all-new ways to land himself in the doghouse! For starters, Greg’s in over his head when he pretends to work at the swanky country club where Rowley’s family has a membership. My Thoughts:

Is you child into Diary of a Wimpy Kid?  My oldest nephew is, and enjoys reading the books.  So, when Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days came out this past year, I promised to take him to see it.  Unfortunately, he was sick at the time and we didn't make it.  And, before he could take in the movie, it wasn't in theaters anymore.  So, I surprised him over the weekend with a screening of the film, as I was sent a screener copy for the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release tomorrow.  You should have saw his eyes light up with excitement.

After the popcorn was made and we all found our spots in the living room, on the couch and the kids camping out of the floor, I put the movie on.  Having never seeing these movies, nor read the book, I had no idea to what to expect.  All I knew was that my nephew loved these books, and said they were funny.  As the movie played, he couldn't stop laughing.  And, I have to admit, I was laughing, too.  By the end of the movie, my nephew was clapping and asking when we would watch it again.  I have to admit, this movie was cute and provided a great evening for the entire family.

This movie follows Greg Heffley, a tween, who is playing to have the best summer yet.  But, everything plans don't happen.  Does he end up having a memorable summer, and get close to the girl he likes?  I am not going to spoil it for you.  You will have to pick up a copy of this movie when it arrives in stores tomorrow. :-)  Fans of the books and movies will not be disappointed with the summertime favorite, even if it is winter.  It would make for a great stocking stuffer!

Want a taste of the film?  Here is an alternative ending to the movie -- enjoy!

Disclosure: I was sent a screener copy of this movie from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
