"Elmo is everyone’s new best friend as Warner Home Video (WHV) and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, released Sesame Street: Preschool is Cool – Making Friends on DVD October 2, 2012 at an SRP of $14.98. This next exciting title in the “Preschool is Cool” series will focus on helping preschoolers develop social skills to make new friends  – skills that give children confidence and at the same time, alleviate parental fears and worries as their children begin school.

In Sesame Street: Preschool is Cool – Making Friends, Professor Grover is the preschool teacher and Elmo is his helper for the day’s lesson! But before Professor can begin, he wants to show Elmo how to become friends with the rest of the class. Is making friends really that easy? Will Elmo and his classmates be able to get along? Featuring social-emotional themed stories and songs, children will learn all about important skills they need to get along with others and strategies on entering social groups. Join Elmo and Grover as they share stories and songs about making friends, taking turns and sharing and laugh along with Professor Grover’s silly antics!

“Warner Home Video is thrilled to release the next installment of Sesame Street’s Preschool is Cool series with Sesame Street: Preschool is Cool – Making Friends,” said Jeff Brown, WHV Executive Vice President and GM of Non-Theatrical Franchise. “With engaging stories, songs, and a bonus home video, children will learn about valuable and important social-emotional skills in an entertaining manner.”

Now in its 43rd season, Sesame Street is the longest-running program in children’s television. Continually evolving, the series introduced a new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) curriculum, and a new segment “Elmo the Musial” to get children better prepared for school.  The series has received more Emmy awards than any other show in television history (146), as well as a Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award honoring the 40th year."

My Thoughts:

This is the third DVD in the "Preschool is Cool" series, with the previous titles being "Counting with Elmo" and "ABC's with Elmo."  In this recent release, young children will learn about making friends, sharing and working together, thanks Professor Grover and his assistant Elmo.

Young children will enjoy the silly stories and songs that make learning about making friends less intimidating and scary.  Even though my daughter has another year before she heads off to preschool, I love this DVD series from Sesame Street, as it is preparing her for this upcoming venture into becoming a big girl.  Of what my friends have shared, it was hard to transition their young children into the world of preschool, and they would have loved to have shared these DVD titles with their children.  Elmo and his friends show children that preschool is a fun play to learn and make new friends.  And, by the end of this 55 minute DVD, your children will be excited about preschool and all it has to offer.

So, while we wait for Savannah to get a little bigger, she is having fun watching Professor Grover and Elmo share stories and fun about preschool.  This is definitely a DVD worth picking up and sharing with young children. Even if your children are in preschool now, it will help teach them about making friends, if they are having trouble.
