My Thoughts:
This DVD couldn't have come at a better time, as we have been fighting a nasty head cold in the house for the past month. It seems like when the girls are starting to get better, a few days letter they are hit again with the bug. I am definitely keeping the tissue companies in business. :-)
Since I took Savannah for her 1 yr. checkup last year, she has become afraid of the doctors. As soon as the doctor enters the room, she is clinging to me for dear life. And, with her recently cold, we had to visit the pediatrician's office twice -- which didn't make her a happy camper. By the time we left the office, I think everyone, including the doctor was stressed out. And, then I opened the mail and saw this DVD. All Savannah saw was Barney, and couldn't wait to watch it. But, I read the back cover and saw how Barney was going to teach children about going to the doctor's, and that doctor's are our friends. After the doctor's visit we just had, I was looking for a great way to show Savannah that she shouldn't fear the doctor.
As we snuggled together to the watch the DVD, I was pleased at how the doctor was portrayed and how Barney and his friends really made the young viewers see and understand that it was ok to feel scared about the doctors, but to know that they are there to help make you feel better and stay healthy. After we were done watching the DVD, I sat with Savannah and talked about what we had just seen. I tried to compare the points Barney shared, to tie into our visit with the doctor. I could see Savannah beginning to understand this about the doctor, and am hoping with more viewings of this new release, that our next trip to the pediatrician's office will be less stressful. Crossing my fingers! :-) And, to think we will have to deal with this once she goes to the dentist for the first time. Yikes!
