I wanted to remind you again about the upcoming Shop Small Business Saturday, this upcoming weekend. As many of you are already planning your strategic game plans for Black Friday, don't forget to support your local business owners. Over the past two weeks, I have been sharing my thought on the importance of supporting small businesses, and how with your help this upcoming holiday season, you will not only help them stay in business and be able to continue to offer wonderful and unique products/services, but that the local economy and community will benefit as well.
Even though I have a few stores I will be shopping at on Black Friday, I will be doing it online. I have learned about the crazy lines in the early AM rush on this day after Thanksgiving holiday shopping gift off day. But, come Saturday, I will be heading out to a handful of my local small business shops to do some shopping and enjoy treats. I was surprised to see many small businesses promoting sales for Shop Small Business Saturday, with some even offering FREE drinks and treats when you stop by. A handful of local downtown shops in my town are running a special promotion, that if I spent $200 in purchases at any of their stores, I will receive a $50 gift certificate to use at any of their retail shops. How great is that?!!! And, for those who like to get out and shop early, the local coffee shop if offering a FREE hot coffee or tea when you purchase a baked good. Then, come lunch and dinner time, other local restaurants are offering buy 1 get 1 free meals, free appetizers and other discounts. So, after a long day of shopping, I will be hitting up a few of these restaurants with my family for a nice lunch and dinner out. Not only will we get great service and food, but we will be supporting these local dining establishments.
Have you seen local small businesses promoting sales and special offers for the upcoming Shop Small Business Saturday in your area? If not, make sure you check out American Express' Shop Small website, in which they have a directory of shops in your area -- https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/Shop-Small/. I used their shop directory to find other shops I didn't know were around, and after checking out their websites and learning about special saving this upcoming Saturday, I hope to get most of my holiday shopping done by shopping Small Business Saturday. Just by comparing advertisements from big retail chains and the deals I can get by shopping local shops, I am finding I will save more by shopping these smaller businesses. And, many of these mom and pop shops are offering gifts that you can't find anywhere else, which is great for those on my list who have everything. :-)
So, after you are done shopping Black Friday sales, make sure you head out on Saturday and show your support for local small businesses by shopping Small Business Saturday. I will be out and tweeting the deals and freebies I am finding. :-) I'd love to hear what unique finds and deals you get when you shop this upcoming Saturday. If crowds aren't your thing, don't forget that you can show your support for small businesses year round, as well as purchase items from small business entrepreneurs like the Spotlight Moms and Dad I have featured on my site, through their online websites. Remember, when you shop locally, you are helping both the business owner and your community to flourish. :-) This will be the first year I take my mom and daughter, Savannah shopping with me. Can't wait for a great girls day out with them!
