New zApped Games from Hasbro -- Battleship and Spellshot (Review)

"You sunk my battleship."  Remember those commercials on television as a child?  Even though looking back now I think they were cheesy, as I kid when Battleship the board game came out, I had asked Santa for this.  :-)  And, when I got it, every chance I could, I would have my brothers or mother play this game with me.  They didn't like it as much as I did, but I loved being able to say the coined phrase, "You sunk my battleship."  So, when I heard Hasbro was coming out with Battleship zApped edition for the iPad, I had to get my hands on a copy.  When I was sent a copy for review, I felt like a kid again, as I showed it to my husband.  I was surprised to find out that he had never played this game growing up.  Was he in for a treat!  Come date night last Friday, I pulled out this and Hasbro's other new zApped game, Spellshot, to play with him.

Like the original Battleship board game, this iPad version also came with ships, which you place on your iPad screen.  The screen acts as your battle station.  With the free app for download, you then set out to defend your battleships and the Earth.  The cool thing about this game is that the iPad app recognizes which ship paws are in play, and tracks your every move.  Playing games like this makes me realize we have come a long way in regards to technology.  It is truly amazing!

As I played this game repeatedly with my husband, letting him win a few times, memories of playing Battleship as a child came back to me.  And, as I compared this new, updated game with the oldie but goodie, I can say that I love this new game more.  The use of the iPad makes the game more interesting and provides a real interactive feel to it, compared to just moving your ship around a cardboard board game.

And, when we were done playing Battleship zApped, we tried our luck at Hasbro's other zApped edition game, Spellshot.  Similar to Battleship, this is another battle game.  But, instead of using ships as the game pieces, you use Zapp wizard pawns.  The dueling battleground game is great for children and adults to play.  Players will enjoy how all the Elements (Earth, Air, Water and Fire) combine to make this battle game for fun, as you battle through magical worlds.  Our favorite was the Jungle World.  Both my husband and I were blown away with the graphics o this game.  Each wizard has their own special spells they can cast on other plays, like virtual fireballs and summoning blazing comets.

Having never played this game before, we were intrigued by the game play and amazing detail to each magical world.  But, when I asked my husband which out the two games he preferred, he said, "Battleship." as did I.  I know what we will be playing next date night! :-)
