Synopsis:
Michael Evans is forced to move to the small town of New Hope in the
middle of his senior year. Thrust onto the basketball team just before
the playoffs, Michael struggles to fit in, particularly with star player
Lucas Green (Ben Davies, Courageous). Compounding the situation, Michael begins dating
Jasmine Stone, the former girlfriend of Lucas' brother Chase, whose
suicide shook the entire town to its core. Capturing the life of the
modern teenager, New Hope is a powerful story that openly deals with peer pressure, alcohol, sex, relationships, and acceptance.
Directed by Rodney Ray (Flag of My Father, Desires of the Heart), New Hope follows a young man's fight to turn the other cheek, rise above his tormentor, and forgive a hurting soul. A well-crafted film with a strong Christian message, this inspiring drama reminds us that life's troubles may test our faith, but God is watching out for us every step of the way.

My Thoughts:
This is a heavy movie to watch, and one I would recommend for children ages 12 and up for its adult themed content, including sexual references, mild violence, alcohol use and topic of suicide. But, after watching this film over the weekend, I can see it worth watching with older children, who are entering high school and feeling out of place and struggling to fit in. The life themes that are shared in this new release include grieving and moving forward, learning how to love others who dislike you, and the power of forgiveness, all while having faith in God.
The film moved along at a good base and can made older viewers relate to certain peer pressures and topics discussed. After viewing, this film will open up lines of communication between parent and child, which is great for those parents who are looking for ways to get their children to open up and talk with them more.

Synopsis:
After an explosion near the sun wounds Donton and the craft, Genesis Command orders the crew home for an Unexpected Return. Back on Earth, Admiral Croft and his daughter, Aurelia, discover a suspicious mechanical part that may have triggered the craft's malfunction. While Donton tends to his injuries, Enoch swings by a friend's garage to pick up his prized Corvette and escort Lt. Abigail Jennings on a surprise picnic. The excitement builds as Enoch, Donton, and Priscilla prepare for the next leg of their mission, a trip to Venus, where Donton will undock "Little G" and touch down on the surface to collect samples. Re-boarding their repaired craft is bittersweet, but as Enoch reminds Abigail, "God is in control, and He is good in everything."
An imaginative series told in the tradition of The Magic School Bus, Genesis 7 combines suspenseful plots and computer animation to explore the solar system with a Christian worldview. Unexpected Return includes bonus educational materials and the inspiring message that all things are possible with God!
My Thoughts:
This was the second DVD I reviewed in this imaginative series, and can see why so many other Christian reviewers rave about this it. Young children will love learning about the solar system, in a fun, educational way. Young viewers will learn how God is always with them and that if you believe in him and his abilities, that all things are possible. What a positive message that I know viewers will enjoy learning and applying in their day to day lives.
Disclosure: I was sent copies of the above DVDs from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. The views above are mine and mine alone.
