UNREAL™ Brands announces a manifesto video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?
Produced this month, “Get UNREAL™ –
Candy Unjunked” takes viewers to Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico,
and many locations in the United States
as it brings to life UNREAL’s journey to reinvent candy. Alongside
Adam Melonas, UNREAL Candy Chef, the audience witnesses everything from
the actual blue agave plant that sweetens UNREAL products and the palm fruit
that produces the oil, to harvesting the cocoa plant and packaging the final
product. The video even features a live tasting with several of candy’s
most discerning customers – kids.
After two years and thousands of recipes, UNREAL™
launched this summer in over 18,000 stores nationwide with five candies that
retail for a comparable price yet do not contain corn syrup, hydrogenated oil,
artificial flavors, GMO’s or synthetic colors. In fact, UNREAL™
candies are made with only the best ingredients. The dairy comes from pasture
raised cows in New Zealand and California without antibiotics or added hormones.
The organic palm kernel oil from a sustainable and organic plantation in Brazil. Traceable cacao beans from farms in Ghana and Ecuador.
Natural colors instead of synthetic dyes, like red from beets and blue from
purple cabbage.
“UNREAL has done it with candy. And if they can do it with candy, we can
do it with anything,” comments Dr. Mark Hyman, Chairman of the
Institute for Functional Medicine, four-time New York Times bestselling
author, and internationally recognized leader in his field.
My Thoughts:
I picked up the peanut butter cups version of UNREAL candy the other day at CVS and can't believe how great it tasted. When I first learned about UNREAL and how they were creating candy that was a better option for you, I was skeptical about how good it would actually taste. Usually when people try to reinvent a product to make it healthier, you lose the taste/flavor. But, after the first bite, I couldn't stop. Not only was the chocolate and peanut butter flavors there, like in other popular peanut butter cup candies, but it didn't taste as heavy or leave my fingers with saturated oils like the other brands. And, when I was done, I felt satisfied and not guilty. Who knew that candy could taste so good and also be healthy for you. :-)
I can't wait to pick up the other UNREAL flavors to stay. And, come Halloween this year, I will be handing out UNREAL candy to the trick or treaters. Can't wait to see what UNREAL has in the pipelines now that they have tackled and proved they can create healthier version of popular foods.

About UNREAL™
Nicky Bronner, a kid determined to prove he could unjunk candy, and Adam Melonas, an innovative chef, have collaboratively brought an UNREAL™ idea to life. UNREAL™ products are made with wholesome ingredients, with more fiber and more protein. (this needs to be meet FDA’s requirements for “more” claims) The dairy comes from free-range, pasture-raised cows without antibiotics or added hormones. The palm kernel oil hails from a sustainable, organic farm in Brazil. The cacao beans are actually traceable, sourced from farms in Ghana and Ecuador.. UNREAL™ takes the extra step in developing their candies because it’s the right thing to do for people and the planet. With a simple idea brilliantly executed, UNREAL™ Brands has become a magnet for creative professionals. One from Google. An interior decorator. A P&G’er. A guitarist from Glaceau. A dog named Lola. In short, an eclectic mix you’d never find in any other company in the world. But it works. Why? Because they’re drawn together by a common mission. To challenge what we’ve come to accept in our food. To change the way junk food is made.
