Synopsis:
From the beloved director of Chocolat and the
Oscar-winning screenwriter of Slumdog Millionaire comes the
inspirational comedy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. A visionary sheik (Amr
Waked) has a big dream - to bring salmon fishing to the desert. Willing
to spare no expense, he instructs his representative (Emily Blunt) to
turn his dream into reality, an extraordinary feat that will require the
involvement of Britain's leading fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor) who
happens to think the project both absurd and unachievable. That is,
until the Prime Minister's overzealous press secretary (Kristin Scott
Thomas) latches on for its potential as a 'good will' story. Now, this
unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream
journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible.

My Thoughts:
Who knew a movie about salmon fishing would be so enjoyable?. Now, I used to fish as a kid, but after watching Ewan McGregor's character, Dr. Jones, in this film, I can see there are other levels of fish enthusiasts out there. He really knew his stuff, and had a love for photographing them in great detail.
The film has two story lines -- a rich Sheik wants to bring his love of salmon fishing to a supposed fish-friendly desert, in hopes to enrich the lives of others and teach them about salmon fishing. The second story is that of the characters played by both Ewan McGregor (Dr. Jones) and Emily Blunt (Harriet). Both seem to have hit a wall in their relationships and as they take on this new project given to them from their superiors, they form an unlikely relationship.
Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt work great together. You can really feel the tension between them in the beginning, as they have love to hate relationship, that is until they are forced to work together and make this endeavor put forth by the Sheik possible. This film also stars Kristen Scott Thomas, who plays the Prime Minister's press secretary. Needing a good story to deter from all the bad that is happening, she clings to this idea of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert.
This film does a great job in showing that the impossible is sometimes possible, and that you can't help who you fall for and who you will become friends with. If you love romantic dramas, you will love this film. Don't think you have to like fishing to enjoy it. These are also some comedic scenes in the film that will have you laughing. So, if you are looking for a movie to watch this weekend, why not choose this film. It makes for a great date night film, as well as girls film. Definitely an award-winning film not to be missed!
