Golden Records was one of the first and ultimately most successful
children’s record labels in America. Grammy Award-winning producer
Arthur Shimkin imagined the iconic label in 1948. Through rich
orchestration and the use of A-list talent, Golden Records created a
timeless, one of a kind sound, releasing beloved songs and stories that
entertained and educated children for decades.
Back by popular demand, Golden Records returns to release a series of
highly anticipated albums, launching a series of instant classics and
remastered original recordings to come. Award-winning music producer
Tony Shimkin, son of Golden Records creator, Arthur Shimkin, has carried
on his father’s legacy, producing each of the releases, reimagined for
the child in all of us!

My Thoughts:
I received this CD the other day, and couldn't wait to listen to it. Unfortunately, because we have been sick for over a week now, our plans to go away for Labor Day weekend had to be cancelled. So, I used the time we spent indoors listening to this new CD and snuggling on the couch with the girls.
After listening to the entire CD, I have to say I think I enjoyed it as much as the girls did. I grew up with a collection of Golden Records, which I would play on my record player, and trade/borrow with friends. As a kid, I thought I was so lucky to have all these wonderful stories/songs to listen to. Usually, I would listen to them at bedtime, as I laid in bed. It was a great way to unwind after a busy day at school. And, on those rainy or cold winter days when my brothers and I would stay indoors, I would pull out my record collection and play and enjoy on living room record player, while we played board games. As I sat listening to this new CD, which features celebrities young and old, I began reminiscing about my childhood and how much Golden Records was a part of it. And, now that I have children of my own, I love how I can now share stories and songs from my childhood with them.
Don't ask me what our favorite stories and songs were, as we loved each of the 20 included on the CD. The use of sound effects and character voices really kept my oldest daughter (who is 2 yrs. old) engaged. This was amazing, as I have other nursery rhyme and storybooks on CD that I have played for her in the past, but they were dull or not that entertaining, in turn making her walk away and play with her toys, or do something else. But, with each story/story, she sat there with smiles and eager to hear what was next. After each story played, she would turn to me and say "more, more." And, with delight, she would snuggle herself on the couch with each new story that was narrated.
This CD will definitely be coming with us on long car rides to visit the grandparents, and will become a staple in our CD collection. And, with 3 new Golden Records CD's releasing soon, I can't wait to continue adding these CD's to my family's collection. It is so nice to be able to share classic stories read by some of today's favorite and beloved actors/actresses, with my children and see them reacting to the stories and songs.
