Daddy and Me Time Thanks to Polly Pocket (Review)

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a review of the Polly Pocket Hangout House Play Set and Stick N Play Room Assortment.  If you missed my review, click here to read it now - http://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2012/08/mommy-and-me-time-with-polly-pocket.html.  In addition to this play set, my daughter Savannah has been playing with the Polly Pocket Playtime Pet Shop Play Set, which was sent to her shortly after my first Polly Pocket review went live.  She loves these play sets, especially the new Pet Shop Play Set.  Unlike the Polly Pocket Hangout House Play Set and Stick N Play Room Assortment, which used suction cups to hold pieces to the plastic play sets, the Pet Shop Play Set offered more interaction, including a bird swing, a rotating carousel, a working elevator that you push up and down, just to name a few. The Playtime Pet Shop includes one Polly doll, eight pets, food, toys, towel, shampoo bottles, cash register, pet swing, and a pet carrier. Play spaces include front of pet shop, downstairs, upstairs grooming area, swing, and checkout.  Any animal lover with love playing with this cute and colorful play set from Mattel.

I had the opportunity to play with the previous Polly Pocket Hangout House Play Set and Stick N Play Room Assortment toys with her, so I know how great these toys are and how they are keeping Savannah entertained.  So, when my husband was getting ready to spend "Daddy and Me" time with her this past weekend, he, too, finally saw firsthand how great Polly Pocket toys are.  When he asked Savannah what she wanted to do, she ran to her room and carried out the Polly Pocket Pet Shop Play Set and set it up on the living room floor.  Then, she pulled her Daddy to the floor, and began showing off the play set.  I couldn't stop snapping photos of them playing together, as it was so nice to see.  This is one thing about being a parent that I love -- seeing my daughter interact with my husband, and having him act like a kid with her.  He was making animal noises and getting her excited about the play set.  It was really a joy to see.

The favorite feature of this play set was how the Polly doll was able to stay put once you slid her feet into the stirrups.  She was amazed at how she was able to stay standing, without the need of suction cups on the bottom of the shoes, like her previous Polly Pocket play set used.  After my husband and daughter were done playing with the Polly Pocket Pet Shop Play set, my husband couldn't stop raving about how easy it was to pack up and put away.  The play set collapsed into itself and was able to store on the shelf easily.  I ended up using a metal tin I picked up at the store for Savannah to store the tiny accessories in - that way, we wouldn't have to hunt around for them come playtime.  And, when she was done playing with the playset, she knew to put the pieces in the tin, and then the tin fit nicely inside the playset for easy storage.

The only thing that my husband and I both agreed upon was that some of the tiny accessories were not easy to place in the play set with adult hands.  Even though they were larger than the previous play set and accessories I reviewed, the shelves and areas where these accessories were to be placed were tight spaces and adult fingers would fumble and drop the accessories.  For example, in the pet shop play set, the area on the first floor with the snack vending machine had a little level to pull to release the plastic dog bones and fish.  When they needed to be put back into the opening in the top of the storage unit, we had to rely on Savannah to do it, as we couldn't fit them in.  But, other than that, this play set has been played with daily since receiving, and whenever my husband or I ask Savannah what she wants to play with, she always pulls one of her Polly Pocket Play sets out.

With the holidays around the corner, I can't wait to pick up additional play sets and accessories, which can snap onto these existing sets to add more fun to playtime.  This is definitely a brand that knows what young girls want, and delivers.



In addition to the Polly Pocket Playtime Pet Shop Play Set, we were also sent the Polly Pocket DVD, "Friends Finish First" to view.  The DVD was only 22 minutes, which was great, as it kept my daughters attention, which is hard to do.  She especially loved the music in the movie.  Whenever characters from the Polly Pocket sets she had appeared on the screen, Savannah would run over to her play sets and grab them.  Then, she would dance along with them, while watching the movie.  This movie is great for young girls, to help teach them about the importance of friendship and teamwork.  Fans of Polly Pocket toys will love seeing some of their favorite friends on the television, while those not that familiar with the popular toy will love the animated movie and catchy songs.
