This has been a tough year for us dog wise, as we had to put down our dog, who was 21 years old, due to complications from severe allergies and years of being on prednisone. My husband and I rescued him from a shelter when we moved in together back in 2001. You can say that he was our training for having children down the road. :-) And, over the years before we welcomed our daughters in 2010 and 2011, he was spoiled, as if he was our only child. We would fill the tree with gifts for him, bring him on vacation with us, buy him his favorite food and treats, and let him snuggle in bed with us (well, he would take up most of the bed, as he liked to roll and stretch out). Manny, who has a lhaso apso/shitz zue mix, was the love of our lives, and will be forever remembered in our house.
And, then in 2008, a few weeks before I started chemo and radiation treatment for cancer, we rescued our second dog, who was only 10 week old. Abby is a papillon/chihuahua mix. Not only do pets provide you with unconditional love, but they are also great for pet therapy. While I stayed at my parents house, Manny stayed with my husband at our new home in CT, while Abby kept me company in MA. She would snuggle up next to me, and knew when I was having good and bad days. And, on those bad days, she would give me more kisses and just laid with me.
Once I finished treatment, I celebrated by rescuing another dog, named Lily. She is a Maltese/silky terrier mix, and was 4 years old at the time. How could we not rescue her after hearing about all that she had gone through. She was used for breeding, and had a lot of litters. Then, when she wanted needed anymore, they threw her out on the street. Someone had shot her with a bb gun, and left her online on the street. She stil has the bb in cheek today. When we rescued her, she was only 8 lbs.
Abby and Lily quickly bonded and have become inseparable. Even though Lily is older, Abby is bigger in size and acts like the older sister. They loved Manny, but he has a temperament and didn't like anyone besides my husband and I. The house was quiet after we put Manny down and our other two dogs moped around for about a week later, missing their forever friend. But, as time passes, we know that Manny is happier and not suffering anymore, which brings us comfort. And, as we continue to love and cherish our two other dogs, we can't wait for our daughters to get a little older and share the same love we have for rescue dogs with my us. If you have pets, then you know how important they are in your lives. Even if you don't treat them like children, like we do, they are and will always remain "Man's best friend."

With that being said, I was excited to be able to share a special treat with them the other day. I was sent samples of Cesar's new dog food to share with them. Before I could bring it in the house, they went crazy in the backyard and couldn't wait to devour a plate of this tasty meal. Here are some photos I took of them eating out on the back porch the other evening. They attempted to tear off the foil cover, as they waited for us to get their plates.
I even took a video to show how much they love this food. In under a minute, they both licked their plates clean. It was a race to see who finished first, and we have to give it to Abby.
If you have dogs, have you tried Cesar dog food with them? Do you go crazy for these trays and cans as much as my dogs do? If you haven't given this popular dog food brand a try, you definitely should. My dogs act like it is Christmas each time I buy and give them Cesar trays for dinner. And, with the holidays around the corner, I will be filling their stockings with Cesar dog food and treats. :-)
