August is a
terrific month for women! It begins with National Girlfriends Day and a few
days later, on August 5, both National Sisters Day and National Friendship Day
are celebrated. In honor of sisters and
girlfriends everywhere, the authors of the recently published Life Moments for Women
book, a
sweeping collection of personal turnings points of 108 extraordinary women from
all over the State of California, want to celebrate by sharing a fun contest
with you!
Life Moments for Women came into
being through the friendship between authors, Patty DeDominic and Maureen Ford.
Many of the stories of the remarkable 100+ women in the book revolve around
girlfriends, sisters and friendship, just as many of our lives revolve around
our girlfriends and our sisters, who are often one and the same. It’s time to
celebrate them!

About Life Moments for Women:
Life
Moments for Women is a sweeping collection of personal turnings points of 108
extraordinary women from all over the State of California. The common thread
is to share the idea that women can change the world, one moment at a time.
The idea for Life
Moments for Women came from authors Patty DeDominic, award-winning
entrepreneur, philanthropist, and women’s advocate and Maureen Ford, an
entrepreneur-educator and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award
recipient. They embarked on this incredible collaborative effort to achieve
three goals: to instill greater awareness of the critical roles that women play
in building a better world, to awaken more interest in becoming a leader as
well as an unstoppable force for change and to raise one million dollars through the sales of the book for the
Women’s Foundation of California.
Contributors were asked to identify the most
crucial moment in their lives, describe what happened and how it changed their
life. Each vignette is a story of that powerful life defining moment. The
stories cover the entire spectrum of human endeavor and are short, vividly told
and incredibly personal. The frank sincerity of the insights will often take
your breath away.
Patty DeDominic, author of the New World of Work and 2006 CEO of the
Year, is a well-known and admired entrepreneur who has reached the pinnacle of
professional success--a respected philanthropist and an international advocate
for women. She is president emeritus of the Los Angeles Chapter of the
National Association of Women Business Owners and has served on numerous
boards, including the California Chamber of Commerce and the prestigious Jane
Goodall Institute. A sought after speaker on women’s issues around the world,
Ms. DeDominic has created and continues to build and promote Women’s Festivals
in celebration of International Women’s Day. She is a role model for others
and has received numerous awards and honors for her support of girls and women
of all ages.
Maureen Ford, a former educator, has a long
history of service in volunteer organizations devoted to girls and women such
as Sandpipers, the Palos Verdes Junior League, and the South Bay Crisis
Intervention Center, where she counseled victims of domestic abuse and sexual
violence. She went on to become a national training director for the March of
Dimes Birth Defects Foundation and received many honors around the country for
writing educational materials and speaking on behalf of “Healthy Mother,
Healthy Babies.” Ms. Ford later founded a nonprofit organization to assist
aspiring entrepreneurs and received the coveted Ernst & Young Entrepreneur
of the Year Award for developing innovative education programs in small
business and entrepreneurship.
