Feature Friday -- The Bagwell -- The Must-Have Kitchen Gadget That Actually Holds Storage Bags Open For You (Review and Giveaway)

This past Monday I introduced you to Stacy Roberts, the creator of the bagwell.  If you missed my interview with Stacy, click here to read it now.  Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on this novel idea, and how the bagwell has become a lifesaver and acts as a second pair of hands when I am in the kitchen.

Being a busy mom of two children under the age of 2, I find that it is easier to make meals in advance and freeze them, so that on days when I don't have time to spend 30+ minutes putting a meal together, I can quickly and easier remove a pre-cooked meal from the freezer in the AM,  and then come dinner time, through in the oven to reheat. Even though I have found this method of in-advance meal planning and prep a way to not only keep me sane, but most importantly offer my family a home cooked meal each night, the preparing and storing of these meals in plastic storage bags was a challenge.  This challenge, due in part by the need for a second pair of hands to hold open the bags, resulted in spills and messes in the kitchen, which only added stress to my day.  I tried everything I could think of to hold open bags, from taping to the counter edge for lighter items to folding over cups and bowls, only to have them come loose and spill everywhere.

But, while searching for 2012 Spotlight Moms, I stumbled across Stacy's bagwell invention and hoped this is the kitchen tool that I was searching for.  I reached out to Stacy, who accepted my offer to be a Spotlight Mom, and also to have her bagwell product reviewed by me.  She sent me a sample, and as soon as I took it out of the box, I quickly ran tot he kitchen to try it out.  Even though I was preparing frozen meals, I wanted to see if the bagwell really worked.

After reading the easy to use instructions, I placed a plastic storage bag into the bagwell holder.  Then, I added fruit from the counter into the bag.  I couldn't believe it -- the bag stayed open and didn't collapse as the contents were added.  To really put it to the rest, I cracked open a can of stewed tomatoes and added it to another plastic storage bag I fixed over the bagwell.  Again, the bag stayed in place and the contents remained in the bag, where they should be.  I was shocked and excited. After trying to create my own bag holder without success, I finally stumbled across a product, created by another mom, that actually worked, and which has become a must-have kitchen gadget in my house.

I have had the bagwell for over a month now, and find an excuse to use it whenever I can.  From creating to frozen meals, to adding dinner leftovers in a storage bag, the bagwell remains on my counter at all times.  When I am not using it, I can simply fold it up and slide behind the cookie jar.  And, when I need it, in seconds it is ready to go.
If you love trying out unique kitchen gadgets, that really do make your life easier in the kitchen, then you have to pick up a bagwell for yourself.  I would suggest picking up two, as they make for great hostess or housewarming gifts.  Or, like I have seen firsthand, once my friends see the bagwell in action, they want one for themselves and continually ask where they can get one.
