How to best plan and organize coupons
My Thoughts:
I remember growing up and watching my mother clip coupons each Sunday, from the circulars that came in the newspapers. And, when I would go to the market with her, I watch as the cashier rang in her coupons and she would save 25%+ off her order. When she prepared her weekly shopping list, she would base it off the coupons and on-sale items in the store's flyers. There were many times that we would be trying different brands because she had a coupon for it. It wasn't until I entered college and was on my own that I began using coupons. At first, I wasn't sure how couponing worked beyond cutting and saving money off select products. I didn't know you could shop at stores that doubled the coupons (and, sometimes tripled coupons). After getting a few pointers from my mom, I learned more about couponing and loved it. Who wouldn't love saving money when grocery shopping? The only thing I didn't like was that my favorite brands didn't always have coupons? Then, a friend shared about how she stocked up when her favorites were on sale, and then waited 3-4 months for them to go back on sale and have coupons available. Her stocking up was called creating a stock pile. Unfortunately, living in an apartment with 4 other girls, didn't allow me to have space for a stock pile. So, I would only use coupons to save during weekly shopping visits.
Flash forward 10+ years and now I have a house of my own and two children -- and, I am still couponing. But, now, I am more savvy with shopping. I love shopping at Target for many baby products, as they let you stack coupons -- meaning, you can use one of their printable coupons, paired with a manufacturer's coupon you clipped from a circular or printed from many online coupon sites. I can't tell you how much money I have saved by stacking coupons. The only thing that I hate when using coupons is that some cashiers don't know how to ring in the coupons, ring them in wrong, or need to call for help. When they call for help, I hear those behind me in line sigh, as they don't like being held up. To help prevent this, I try to find cashiers I have cashed out with before and know how to apply coupons, or wait to after dinner to shop, when there are less being in the stores.
Now, couponing is not just for grocery stores. There are so many online discount sites, including daily deal sites and sites that offer current coupon codes you can use when online shopping. Beware, you can get addicted to these daily deal sites. :-) I did when preparing for Savannah. Each day, I would log on to the baby daily deal sites and see what they were offering, and would impulse buy. It wasn't until I began realizing that I wasn't using half of the stuff I bought with her. And, by the time Arabella arrived, I would only buy diapers, shoes and keepsakes from these sites.
Even though I know how to coupon, I learned a lot just by reading this book. I loved how it broke down how to prepare for your shopping trips, as well as other tips and tricks to saving with coupons. If you are new to couponing, or want to learn how those people from Extreme Couponing on television do it, this book will help explain couponing in easy-to-understand terms, making applying what you learned easy and fun. I have shared this book with friends and they were amazed at how much they learned about shopping in stores, as well as online.

I use coupons, but mostly on big-ticket items. I don't like grocery shopping, so the idea of couponing in addition to suffering at the store, is a bit overwhelming! I'm using a coupon tomorrow to get new struts on my car - and it'll save me $150!
