If you have kept up with my blog, then you know that I had been trying to potty train Savannah. But, with a newborn and toddler together, it is hard to get Savannah to her potty each and every time. As a result, we had decided to hold off on potty training, until Arabella got a little bit older. But, lately, Savannah has been undressing herself and taking her diaper off when she needs to go potty. So, we have decided to revisit potty training with her. And, in doing so, I was able to share a book I had made just for her, with her photo on each page, that talks about potty training, thanks to the folks at Bookadoo. I had received Savannah, Are You Coming Out to Play last month, but put it aside when we decided to hold off on potty training.
After reading the book to her the other day, while she was on the potty, she got a kick out of her seeing herself on each page. As I read the story to her, she would point out the girl on each page and say, "Me," with a smile. And, when the story was done, Savannah surprised me and went potty. We both cheered and clapped and added a sticker to her potty chart on the wall. Even though it is still a work in progress, and there are times she goes potty in her diaper without telling me, this book has come in handy. When she feels the urge to go, Savannah grabs the book from the table to give to me, and we walk into the bathroom together. And, as I finish reading the last page, each and every time, Savannah goes potty. Hopefully, with more practice, she will be potty trained -- who knows, maybe before her 2nd birthday on July 19th. Stay tuned.
