My Thoughts:
With baseball season in full swing, what better way to get into the spirit of the game than with a few good baseball books? Children of all ages will enjoy the selection of baseball-themed books offered from Candlewick Press. Out of the books shown above, my favorite by was There Goes Ted Williams. Having been born in Boston, MA, and lived in MA most of my life, I am a true Red Sox Fan. And, having undergone treatment at Dana Farber, I have walked past Ted Williams memorabilia, as well as read about this man and famous Red Sox player. I have to say, however, that I learned more about his character, including his angry outbursts, which made him disliked by many. But, you have to learn about the many sides of this man and legend in order to appreciate the type of ball player he was. Even after serving in the armed forces and not training, he was able to come back and continue to hit and dominate the league. His story is truly remarkable, and one both children and adults will love reading about in this book from Candlewick Press.
All the books shown above had amazing illustrations, that would make any baseball fan eager to read and want to flip the pages to see what happens next. I loved how Candlewick Press is spotlighting these books during the month of April, and bringing the love of the game into families homes and apart of bedtime reading. Even thought my daughters are too young to really enjoy each of these books, if they are like their parents, they, too, will become die hard baseball fans, and love having these baseball-themed books read to them. Only time will tell. But, in the meantime, I am enjoying reading them to Savannah, and getting excited about this year's baseball season underway.
