Tell us a little bit about yourself.  How many children do you have?  What are their ages? Your hobbies? Etc.

I have 2 boys, ages 3 and 2.  Well, I use to play golf up until about 3 years ago :).  Any free time that I have is spent with my family.  Downtime I read and study small business.

Briefly explain your business.  How did it come about?

  

Me Giant is a children's line that is fun, yet still sophisticated.  We recently added a line of quilts, pillows, picture frames and wall art.  I started Me Giant in 2010 after I sold my first business - Aidan Gray Home. I adopted two children and my focus and time commitment outside my home changed. 

What is a typical work day like?

I am usually up around 6, try to get a quick work out in and then check email, news feeds etc. .  When the boys get up, we start our day.  I usually try to work when they are napping, at night and on Thursdays when they are both in school. 

What has been a struggle while starting up your company?

Time.  I am a mommy first, but I am also dedicated to my business, so it's tough finding enough time -- but you do what you have to do.  I also forgot how hard in general it is to start a new business.  I spent many years developing systems and operations for my last business and it ran relatively smoothly on a daily basis.  Starting over new with no systems and developing those is tough. 

What did you do in your past work life?

I spent the early part of my professional career in health care. I was a Respiratory Therapist and spent most of my time in Neonatal and Pediatrics.  I later transitioned into adult education -- I was the Director of Respiratory Care at a couple of Colleges.  In 2004 I decided to go back to graduate school and earned an MBA from Baylor University -- this is what put me on the path to entrepreneurship. 

What have been some of your major successes?

I am a super hard worker and am not afraid to learn and try new things.  I always push myself.  Helping start and grow a successful wholesale furniture and decor business was big for me.  I learned a great deal. I would consider this a success. I also do some business consulting, which I love!  I love helping others reach their goals and transform their business.  

  

What have been some of your major challenges?

My biggest challenge is that I expect people to do work as hard as I do.  It took me a long time to realize that everyone is different and what drives me may not drive them.   

On those impossible days, what motivates you to keep going?

My main motivator is the fact that failure is not an option.  I have learned that I am the only one in control of my thoughts and actions and it's my responsibility to make things happen.   

What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?

It's tough to do both, but you simply have to make it happen.  My boys come first, so I have learned to work smarter.  I can accomplish a great deal in a set amount of time.   

What is next for your business?

Our goal is to be the go to source for antiqued and vintage inspired furnishing for kids.  We will soon be introducing a line of furniture that aligns with this goal.  

Do you have any advice for other mom entrepreneurs that are starting out and struggling, or are on the fence about starting a business? 

Invest in yourself, find a mentor, build systems and do as Dory says "Just Keep Swimming".
