Summary:
Have you ever felt caught between the tension of a day job and a dream
job? That gap between what you have to do and what you’d love to do?
I have.
At first I thought I was the only one who felt that way, but then I started to talk to people and realized we’re becoming the “I’m, but” generation. When we talk about what we do for a living we inevitably say, “I’m a teacher, but I want to be an artist.” “I’m a CPA, but I’d love to start my own business.”
“I’m a _____, but I want to be a ______.”
All too often, we hear that dreaming big means you quit your day job, sell everything you own, and move to Guam. But what if there were a different way?
What if you could blow up your dream without blowing up your life?
What if you could go for broke without going broke?
What if you could start today?
What if you already have everything you need to begin?
From figuring out what your dream is to quitting in a way that exponentially increases your chance of success, Quitter is full of inspiring stories and actionable advice. This book is based on 12 years of cubicle living and my true story of cultivating a dream job that changed my life and the world in the process.
It’s time to close the gap between your day job and your dream job.
It’s time to be a Quitter.

My Thoughts:
With the way that the economy is, and the large number of people out of work, the one think people look for stability is in their jobs. Many of my friends who are lucky enough to still have a full-time job, say they are only there to collect a paycheck. They dream of better things, fulfilling lifelong goals to be something more than just a paper pusher -- but, can they chance giving up a steady paycheck and health insurance to take a gamble on their dream? In Quitter by Jon Acuff, he shares his personal story of how he made the transition from his day job to his dream job.
I love the honesty in Jon's book. He doesn't candy coat things, or talk down to you. Instead, he writes like a friend who is sharing his personal story with you, in hopes to provide you with the support and encouragement you need to take that leap of faith, and aspire to be and do more. He makes you step back and take a look at the life you are living, and try to figure out the life you were meant to live. By following his passion of writing, he finally found success as an author and speaker, and now is living his dream job and loving it. Through examples and checklists, Jon will help get you on your way to finding your true bliss in life. Even if you are a stay at home mom like me, I found this book to be extremely helpful, as I am living my dream job through my blog. Writing has always been a passion of mine, and one that I couldn't work on or share in past jobs. But, now, through my personal blog, inspired by my first daughter, I can share my love of writing, along with my desire to help out other mom entrepreneurs through my Monday Spotlight Posts, as a way to live my bliss. Jon helped me see that even though I am not bringing in money like I used, I am reaping the rewards in other ways. And, now, I don't dread getting up every day to work, like I did in the past. Instead, I can sit down at my computer and write a blog post, all while watching my two daughters grow up. Who could ask for anything more?
If you are finding yourself in a job rut, and want to make a change, but don't know how or where to start? Then, why not consider picking up Jon's book, Quitter today. I was able to read this book in a weekend, thanks in part to his humorous additions to the book. This can be seen from the start, as he talks about bathroom wisdom and how to undress in a handicap stall -- shirt first, then pants. Jon will have you laughing one minute, and then seriously thinking about the path you want to take in your life, in order to achieve your dream job. Since finishing this book, I have shared this book with my husband, who in turn passed it on to his siblings. You, too, will find that this book is worth sharing, as everyone who reads it, will benefit from it.

I'm not entirely sure what my dream job is. I know I'd love to head a nonprofit but I'm not sure which field I would like to tackle. I am currently not the CEO of a non-profit, but I do work for one. Got to start at the bottom I suppose.
