The role men play inside the home has certainly started to evolve
compared to 30 years ago, and most men seem to be stepping up to help
with household chores. But, is it enough and are they given credit for
their efforts by their female counterparts? Apparently not. The makers
of Scrubbing Bubbles® released today the second annual Dirty Work Index™
survey*, and found when it comes to cleaning, women still play the
dominant role and in fact, may not be ready to share the spotlight even
though they want more help. As a result, Scrubbing Bubbles® has
partnered with John Gray**, best-selling author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, to engage couples in a healthy discussion to try to resolve the age-old household chore debate, bringing harmony to the home.
The Down and Dirty Facts
The second annual Dirty Work Index™ survey found that when it comes to cleaning, women think they do it all. In fact, 58 percent of women say it’s their “job” to clean, and a quarter (25 percent) of all women feels as if they are the cleaning “leader” in their homes. Conversely, more than half of women confided that they want more overall help from their partner or spouse, but 38 percent don’t trust them to meet their standards of cleanliness.
Manning Up
The survey revealed that men are helping around the house, however they aren’t given credit when credit’s due. Interestingly, 45 percent of men surveyed say it’s their job to clean and contribute to the household accordingly. More surprisingly, nearly 75 percent of men claim to clean to make their spouse or partner happy – demonstrating they do care about helping out and are picking up the slack.
“Women’s and men’s roles outside the home have definitely evolved, but the Dirty Work Index™ survey results indicate that we need to make more of an effort to make changes inside the home, too,” says Gray, whose bestselling book Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. “It’s important to take a closer look at things like household tasks to determine what’s working – and what’s not.”
Gray Helps Couples Tackle the Chore War
From February 2012 through June 2012, John Gray will be offering tips and advice to couples on how to conquer household chores and create more harmony at home. By visiting Scrubby Solution’s Facebook tab families can share their roles, responsibilities and tips for getting it all done. Additionally, they can participate in a Q&A session with John Gray, take a cleaning personality quiz complete with product recommendations and cleaning solutions, and read more surprising data from the Scrubbing Bubbles® Dirty Work Index™ survey.

Cleaning for the 21st Century: A Balancing Act
The foundation of a family begins at home so managing home life – including cleaning – is essential to families’ happiness. How families deal with household chores either strengthens the partnership or creates a divide. Gray offers this advice for creating the best atmosphere at home:
- Define the roles: It’s important to identify all the household chores and discuss who will have ownership of each
- Discuss expectations: The results showed that women don’t trust men to meet their standards of clean. Gray recommends that women actually show men how they want the house cleaned and that couples discuss what clean means to each of them
- Look for time-saving cleaning tools: Stock your home with cleaning products that are easy to use and efficient. For example, use Scrubbing Bubbles® Automatic Shower Cleaner and Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner. These products make the tough tasks easier so anyone in the family can help clean.
- Remember to say thank you: Whether or not the bathroom shines the way you want, don’t forget to say thank you for making the effort.

My Thoughts:
I was sent the Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner and Automatic Shower Cleaner to try out in my own. Always seeing these on the shelf in the grocery store, I always wondered if they worked or not. So, when the folks at Scrubbing Bubbles® sent me samples, I couldn't resist trying them out. Both products were easy to install, with minimal time needed to read the directions. I, first time out the Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner, which I set up in the guest bathroom. I was afraid if I put it in our bathroom, Savannah would want to play around with it and step on the pedal, as this is the bathroom we are currently potty training her in. With spring cleaning in full force at our home, our weekends have been spent cleaning up all the rooms in the house, putting away winter items and preparing for the warmer weather, when we can open our windows and let the fresh air in. Like most people, based on the survey above, I hate cleaning the bathrooms in our house. When we bought our home, I thought it would be great to have more than one bathroom -- so, we have 2 full and 2 half baths. Never did I think about the time I would spend cleaning each one. Even when we don't have people over, we somehow always get these rooms dirty, and have to clean them. I don't mind cleaning the floors and sinks, but when it comes to cleaning the showers and toilet bowls, I can think of 101 other things I would rather be doing. But, it has to get done. So, I am always on the lookout for products that will make this part of my cleaning, so much easier and less disgusting. Thanks to Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner and Automatic Shower Cleaner, I don't have to get my hands dirty any longer. Instead, each night I go into the guest bath and step on the pedal, releasing a toilet bowl cleaner, that actually removes the lime ring and debris in the toilet bowl, all while I am sleeping. The next day, or next time someone uses the toilet and flushes it, the cleaner is flushed away. I have been making it a point to use this product nightly and have been pleased with the overall appearance of the toilet bowl. I would not eat out of it, but it sure does sparkle :-).
As for the Scrubbing Bubbles® Automatic Shower Cleaner, I am loving this product. Even with all the elbow grease and scrubbing in the world, I always noticed a grime and film buildup after a few days of shower use. I don't know how this happens, as I wash out down the showers each week, and dry the walls and tub out after each use. But, now thanks to the automatic cleaner, and a simple push of a button, my shower walls are covered with the Scrubbing Bubbles® automatic shower cleaner, which gets deep into the shower cracks to remove grime and dirt, leaving behind a clean and film-free shower. I notice that if I use this product everyday, come the weekend, this is one less thing I have to clean in the bathroom, which is great!
If you haven't tried these products from Scrubbing Bubbles®, I suggest you do. From one mom to another -- don't waste your weekend with her hands in the toilet bowl or scrubbing away at the shower walls any more. Let the Scrubbing Bubbles® One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner and Automatic Shower Cleaner, make your life and cleaning duties so much easier, with a push of button/pedal.
