Leave it up to Clorox® Clean-Up® Cleaner, a trusted household cleaner, to come up with a fun sweepstakes, the Ultimate Mess Party Sweepstakes, as well as a new website, Recipes For Fun, where families can share and learn about fun at-home activities and recipes that they can do together. With categories like Wacky Science, Arts and Crafts, Kiddie Cooking or Creative Cooking, you are bound to find some rainy/snowy day activities to do with your children. Don't just rely on the go-to play-doh recipe your mother taught you. Instead, why not make an erupting volcano or homemade goop. These are just a couple of the fun and entertaining recipes other families have posted on this new website from Clorox.
To celebrate the new Recipes for Fun site, Clorox
has also launched the Ultimate Mess Party Sweepstakes, giving families a chance to win $10,000 toward an
Ultimate Mess Party, as well as daily instant wins just for registering or sharing a recipe. When I heard about these two new campaigns from Clorox® Clean-Up® Cleaner, I had to visit sign up for the sweepstakes, and then headed over to the Recipes for Fun site to print out fun ideas that I could do with Savannah. I loved how the activities were broken down into categories, and each recipe was easy to make. I flagged a handful of recipes/activities I could make with Savannah, just with items I had in the pantry.
Growing up, I always loved doing arts and crafts type activities with my mother, as well as at after-school programs. This is where I learned many of the fun ideas and activities I have been sharing with Savannah, and will share with her as she gets older. Right now, she is too young to help me out in the kitchen, so my list of fun family time activities are limited. One recipe that I didn't see on the Recipes for Fun website was for homemade musical shakers. Since Savannah began picking things up, I have been making these easy to make music shakers for her to play with.
Here is my recipe for fun:
What You Will Need:
2 Empty Plastic Dixie Cups or Yogurt Cups
Dry beans, uncooked rice or popcorn kernels
Hot Glue Gun
Wooden Spoon or Paint Stirrer
Cardboard
Instructions:
1) First, place a piece of cardboard over the opening of your empty cup. Trace it for an easier way to cut. Then, cut out a big enough piece of cardboard to cover the top of the cup.
2)Take your empty cups and fill them halfway with uncooked rice, dry beans or popcorn kernels.
3) Adults: Use the glue gun and glue the cardboard cover over the cup opening. Once dry, glue the covered cup to the end of a wooden spoon or paint stirrer. Make sure the cup is secure enough to the handle, as you don't want to have your child shake the cup and have the contents go flying.
4) Once secured and dry, shake away.
Savannah loves being the leader in our family marching band, as she leads up by shaking her homemade shakers. Every so often, I will make another set of shakers using different dry contents, so that the sound is different. Savannah, then has an assortment of shakers that produce different sounds. And, when her friends come over, the first thing they run for in the toy room are these fun musical shakers. Why not try this fun activity with your children today. Older children will love adding dry ingredients to the cup and shaking to find just the right noise for them.
Do you have a Recipe for Fun you would like to share? Then, leave a comment below. I can't wait to hear back fun activities you do with your children or grandchildren, to keep them entertained.
