What Goes Great with a Hot Cup of Tea (or Hot Chocolate) - Gourmet Shortbread Cookies from the Malcolm Tradition (Review)

The Malcolm Tradition began with Nana Malcolm.  When Nana emigrated from Scotland to the United States in 1950, she brought along her heirloom Scottish shortbread recipe.

Every Holiday season Nana spent weeks making batch after batch of Scottish shortbread to give to her friends and family to enjoy.  The natural, buttery melt-in-your mouth cookie has always been a favorite holiday treat.

Generations of Malcolm women have continued to carry on Nana’s legacy. We hope you enjoy these gourmet shortbread cookies as much as we have.

My Thoughts:

I first heard about these shortbread cookies, from college friends who haled from Michigan. But, it wasn't until recently that I tried them for myself.  I can now see why they raved about these soft and buttery cookies.  The kind folks at The Malcolm Tradition sent me a box of their shortbread to try out, and within 3 days, the entire box of cookies were gone.

I couldn't get over how moist and delicious they little shortbread cookies were.  After trying them dipping in tea and hot chocolate, I have to say that I preferred them with the hot chocolate.  As you know, I am a huge chocolate fan, so anytime I can dip something in chocolate, it is a fun experience.  I think the combination of the rich milk chocolate, paired with the buttery and smooth feel of the cookie made for a sweet treat.  I found it hard to stop at just 2 cookies at a sitting -- they were that good!!!!

Having parents who are both Italian and Scottish, when the holidays rolled around in our house, we always made it a point to have fresh baked shortbread and biscotti cookies available, for those unexpected guests, as well as an anytime snack.  Both recipes were passed down by my parents mother, and have a special place in my heart.  But, after sharing these shortbread cookies with my parents, they instantly fell in with this recipe by Nana Malcolm.  My mother loved how as soon as the cookie hit your tongue, it began to dissolve, leaving behind a smooth, buttery taste.  Even though we all tried to savor each bite, we couldn't help by continue to nibble away at these little cookies, until they were gone.

Even though these gourmet shortbread cookies from the Malcolm Tradition are popular around the holidays, I can see myself enjoying these all throughout the winter months, as an accompaniment to my hot chocolate, and then again when Valentine's Day and Mother's Day roll around.

Since trying these cookies, I let me Michigan friends know that I absolutely love this shortbread cookies, and if they ever wonder what I want for Christmas, they don't have to look far -- a tin of these cookies will make the perfect gift! :-)

Are you a fan of shortbread cookies?  If so, you definitely have to give Nana Malcolm's gourmet shortbread cookies a try.  But, be warned, once you try them, it will be hard to go back to your family's recipe.  I have since made my Nana's shortbread recipe, but couldn't stop thinking about these delectable treats.
