My Thoughts:
Savannah and I watched Barbie, A Mermaid Tale 2 this past weekend. This film is the current KidToons Film out at local theaters for February, but it will also be arriving on DVD on March 6th.
What little girl doesn't like Barbie? I had a huge Barbie collection growing up, way before they began turning popular toys into movies and cartoons. So, it wasn't until I had Savannah that I began seeing some of my childhood favorites now on the big screen and on DVD. Barbie is one of them. I introduced Barbie to Savannah this past Christmas with a doll of her own and a few of the Barbie movies available. She loved them! So, when I heard that they were coming out with part 2 of the Barbie in a Mermaid Tale movie, I couldn't wait to share it with her.
We watched a screener copy I had received this past weekend, and had so much fun. This film is suited for children ages 4+, as teaches young girls about how life presents challenges, but that if you persevere you can be successful. And, if you have a passion, like Merliah had with surfer, to give it your all. In addition, this film deals with sacrifice and conflict resolution. As you can see this film is a great teaching tool, and can act as a discussion prompter when the movie is done. Because Savannah is too young to talk to about these things, she just sat back and enjoyed the animation and beautiful scenery. She especially loved how Merliah had a special necklace that changed her from human to mermaid. Savannah found a necklace in amongst her toys and pretend it was her special necklace. It was so cute to see her mimic the film.
Overall, this film was entertaining to watch, and will be well received by children between the ages of 4-10 years old. If your daughter is a Barbie fan, she will love this film. We hadn't seen the first movie in the series, but will, now that I know Savannah likes it.
Why not surprise your little one with this DVD for Easter, or make a movie night out of it? It was a great mommy/daughter activity for Savannah and I.
