If you are like me, you look forward to date night, as a way to spend time with your partner, but also to have adult conversations with someone, have the need to dress up in clothes other than pajamas and just to get out of the house with the children. Since Arabella's arrival in November and everyone having colds during the months of Dec. and Jan., we have laid low and had Friday Night Date Nights at home, once the girls go to bed. But, they haven't lasted long, as the baby either went to bed too late (12AM-1AM), or we were both just tired from the day, and chose to go to bed once they did. Our anniversary this past Feb. 1 was spent sleeping. hehehe. But, we agreed that for Valentine's Day, we would go out. So, I have been trying to plan a fun night out, as my parents are coming down to watch the girls for a few hours. As of this AM, I was still unsure of what to do, until I opened my inbox and saw an email from the CT Office of Tourism. Before the girls arrived, I would be in the know on events, new restaurants and unique and fun things to do for romantic evenings and weekend fun. But, lately I have fallen out of the loop. Who knew that CT had a chocolate tour. Here I have been ordering chocolates online, when I could check out some amazing chocolate shops here in my own backyard. Have you ever been to Allegra Farms, the largest
authentic "livery stable," located in Connecticut? I haven't either. While
it's true the 19th century is well over 100
years behind us
now, John Allegra and
Allegra Farm are
keeping this era alive with the restoration of vintage horse
drawn carriages, wagons and
equipment.
Allegra Farm is
home to the Horse Drawn Carriage and Sleigh Museum of New
England, and
full time
carriage service is our only business. From the carriages to the
horses, proper attire to proper etiquette, the meticulous eye
for historical detail will carry you away to the
Victorian Age. Now, this sound fun and romantic. We have taken carriage rides in Boston and NY, but never in CT. Click here to learn more about Allegra Farms and their carriage rides, by appointment.
If comedy is your thing, you can check out many local improvs, like Hartford’s Sea Tea Improv. They are putting on an improvised
comedy show especially for Valentine’s Day – and yup, you guessed it, it’s
centered around love and relationships. It’s going to be a fun one! Spots are
filling up quickly - call 860-525-1600 to make a reservation to hold you
spot.
Or, just looking for a quiet dinner, where you can enjoy the company of your partner, without having to worry about talking over the children, who always seem to interrupt when you are trying to talk, especially on the phone. Then, why not consider reserving a table for two at Farmington’s Apricots – beyond
the delicious food, the upstairs dining rooms are especially elegant, intimate
and overlook Farmington River. This is just one of thousands of restaurants in the state of CT that offer more than just fast food and pizza. I don't remember the last time I sat down at a restaurant and ordered a meal for myself (usually I order to accommodate sharing with Savannah), eat it right when it is served and hot, or even stayed for dessert. But, this Valentine's Day, my husband and I have made a pact to have dinner, and if we are lucky, take in a movie.
So, thanks to the folks at the CT Office of Tourism for keeping busy parents like me up-to-date on fun options this Valentine's Day. What are your plans? Dinner and a movie? A comedy show? I'd love to hear what you have planned, as it may help me finalize our special night (that doesn't come that often nowadays). Whatever you choose to do, enjoy your Valentine's Day!
