Summary:

Once upon a time, on the beautiful Rainbow Island in the middle of the Sparkling Sea lived magical little people called Elfishki.

My Thoughts:

I have been using this app with my daughter, Savannah, for the past few weeks, and she just loves is.  I am blown away by the illustrations and and animation in this app. 

And, I am loving the questions asked on each page of the story, which helps a child digest and discuss what was just read with their parents.  This is a great teaching tool for your young readers, to not only help them appreciate the love of reading, but also to comprehend what they are reading.  My daughter is too young to really be able to utilize this feature, but I have shared the app with friends of school age children, and they are loving it.  During a recent mommy and me meet up at my home, one of my mommy friends and her 5-year old daughter couldn’t stop playing with the app, as the girl was sharing her own take on the story. The mother couldn’t believe the imagination her daughter had.  And, the daughter began going around sharing her story and what she learned from this app with other kids at the meet up.  This was definitely an ice breaker for new moms and kids as a group. It was also a great story, showing children that even if you are different, sometimes you have to work together to get a task done.   If you love unique stories and apps, the you will love Elfishki and the Giant Cake by kidsiphoneapps.net.  From now on, I will be keeping an eye out for future apps released by them.  And, when my daughter gets a little older, this learning app will surely come in handy.  But, for now, we are loving the voice over read along, as we snuggle on the couch together.
