Each player chooses an animal and flips a card face up on the start line. The rest of the cards are then dealt out to each player face down. Ready, Set, MOOO-VE IT! The goal is to travel around the board to find and place dirty laundry in the hamper. The game includes a cute talking hamper that offers encouragement and funny comments as items are picked up. But watch out! If the hamper burps, it may fling the clothes right back at you. First player to get rid of all of their laundry wins.
My Thoughts:
I always like to have fun games on hand for when relatives with young children come to visit, as well as when I hold my monthly playgroups, and the weather doesn’t seem to want to cooperate. These two games from Continuum Games have become hits in my home. Who knew you could make picking up laundry fun?! I love to see the children’s reactions when the laundry hamper talks. For those playing the game for the first time, they always seem to smile and laugh. Then, as they continue playing this fun and addicting game, the hamper continues talking, offering up funny comments that make the children giggle, as well as words of encouragement. This is a great reinforcer, and also teaches children that even though it is a game and there is only one winner, that you can have fun while playing. Parents, be warned: Make sure you count all the pieces prior to and after the game, as we have lost a few once the hamper popped them out and the kids got excited, and decided to through them around like confetti. For this reason, I would also suggest you tell children in advance to try to keep the pieces, once they are spit out of the hamper, on the game board. It is not fun to play a game with missing pieces!
As for the game, Barnyard Stampede, the kids love this because of the cute illustrations of the barnyard friends, as well as the fast nature of this racing match game. I have used the deck of cards from this game to teach my daughter, who is too young to play this game, about the different animals found on a farm, as well match them up with her. Little by little she is comprehending the idea of matching like animals. And, when she does make a correct match and I tell her good job, she gets so happy and can’t stop clapping.
