Last Minute Gift Giving Ideas -- Deepak Chopra’s Leela: A Video Game For Xbox 360 Kinect (Review)

Summary:

This game uses the Kinect sensors to guide users through the seven “chakras,” or points along the body that many believe serve as a body’s energy centers. Somewhat like Wii Fit or other games like Flower, Leela will have minigames that get more difficult over time, but it will not have scores or other competitive aspects. Instead, it will be more about learning how to better do the exercises and enjoy the soothing visuals and music. In one exercise called the “root chakra,” players must tilt their hips to seed a plant on the screen. The “heart chakra” has players use their hands to direct fireballs that destroy rocks to release hidden gems.

My Thoughts:

If you like fasted paced action games, then Leela is not for you.  Instead, this new form of video game play, by self-help guru Deepak Chopra is quite the opposite of most video games on the market.  The premise of Leela is to introduce you to the spiritual practice of mediation. And, though the use of some amazing graphics and Kinect Technology, your body will be moving in ways that will help relax you.  And, with the use of soothing, soft music, one is able to play this game quietly, so that they can also meditate.

This is a unique concept for a game, and one that i think would work if people were willing to slow down in life and take a breath.  Many people don't mediate or practice some form of spirituality, so if they pick up this game, I don't think they will get much out of it.  Once the holidays are over and my daughter is back to 100%, then I will really delve into this game and see if it will help bring balance to one’s life, like it says it will.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this game from the vendor in order to write up an honest review  The views above are mine and mine alone.
