Looking for an adult cookie to indulge in over the upcoming cold winter? Well, have I found the perfect cookie for you – the mini cookie shot from Farthest Star Cookies. These cookies are made with popular liqueurs such as Irish Cream, Schnapps, and Crème de Banana or favorite cocktails such as the Northface and the Margarita. And, cookies are roughly 1"-1.5" in diameter, and are almost 1 ounce each.
What originally drew me to these cookies, was the story behind how they came about. Faye, the baker of these wonderful cookies, had a dream to combine Bailey's Original Irish Cream liqueur and the ever popular, chocolate chip cookie. She thought that it would make for a wonderfully decadent cookie. And, that is when she had her ah ha moment, and began experimenting in the kitchen with various cookie and liqueur combinations. Through trial and error, and feedback from her taste testers, Faye’s dream finally became a reality, and now she is running a successful business, with a unique product. In reading through her site, I stumbled upon this, which sums up how her business name and dream came about. I found this to be inspirational for all the mom entrepreneurs I have highlighted in 2011 on my blog, as they too, followed their farthest star and took a chance on their dream, only to become a better person and become successful in their endeavors.
“The farthest star is that dream you've always had. The dream you always thought was too far away to reach. Some of us grow out of our dreams; some of us dream new dreams; and some of us decide to try. We decide to try knowing that just by trying; we will grow and be better for the effort.”
Well, enough about the background on this company and cookie. I know you all want to know how the cookies Faye sent me tasted. Did the stay in or bake out? Can you get drunk off a cookie? Etc., Etc. Etc..
Unfortunately, the timing of receiving the samples and my pregnancy, prevented me from personally tasting these cookie shots. But, I enlisted the help of my husband, and some family and friends who had come to visit. I wish I had a camera to capture their taste testing session. You would think that they were actual paid taste testers. As they sat at the kitchen table, with an empty plate, notepad and pen, they began cutting the mini cookies into equal quarters and began to pass around to one another. Then, they would sit back and pop a piece of the cookie in their mouth. After savoring it, they would then discuss how it tasted. This scene went on for about a half hour, while they sampled each of the cookie samples Faye had sent me.
In the end, this is what they had to say about the mini cookie shots.
1) The liquor is baked out of the cookie, as they couldn’t taste actual strong liquor. Instead, the liquor left behind the flavoring of it. And, combined with cookie, made for a delicious and sophisticated treat.
2) They loved the liquor and cookie combinations that Faye offers, especially the Irish Cream Chocolate Chip and the Peanut Butter Crème de banana cookies.
3) These cookies would pair nicely with a cup or shot of expresso, as well as nibbled on while drinking tea.
4) They loved how there was an “adult cookie” made just for them. After a long day at the office or with the kids, it would make for a nice way to unwind. One friend said that she would love to pamper herself with a hot bath, glass of wine and plate of these tasty cookies.
5) These cookies would make for a great gift for a foodie or person who loves to try unique foods.
6) Even if you are not a drinker, or dislike the taste of liqueur, you will love these cookies, as they are not too strong, and for the most part the cookie itself (i.e.. chocolate chip) stands out. You just have a subtle hit on something (the disappointed alcohol) that enhances the overall flavor profile of the cookie.
As you can see from the comments I received from my taste testers, these cookies are one of the best that they have eaten. Many commented on how moist and soft they were. They didn’t crumble when bitten into. And, you could tell that they were freshly baked. So, if you ever considered what a cookie with alcohol would taste like, look no further than the Farthest Star. Click here to visit the company website and order a sampler of mini cookie shots, as well as other cookie offerings from the Farthest Star. Faye also offers sugar-free cookies!!!
With New Year’s Eve around the corning and Valentine’s Day a few months away, why not give this cookie a try. It makes for a perfect date night treat for those who like to stay home and snuggle on the couch, watching a movie and sipping on a glass of wine.
Disclosure: I was sent samples from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. The views above are mine and mine alone.
